Getting to the stage where I have to think about this - reluctantly, because my contract has a while to go.
Raised a ticket re speeds on my steam driven set up (as evidenced by latencies/pings etc) at the beginning of the week and still awaiting a substantive response to the query.
DL today quoted at 3.00 mb/s.
Suspect that the guilty party is (surprise, surprise) BT.
Therefore seems that, in view of other threads on this forum, I need to find a supplier where I won't be dependent on some hairy arsed engineer from BTOR.
I appreciate that a PN forum is not the obvious place to enquire, but have any of you guys any observations re shifting to (just as an example) fibre on Virgin?

Sorry to offend your delicate sensibilities, Jim, but you will admit that I had asterisked it?

So what - this is the rule
