Ticket raised re: drop in speed

Hi,
I raised a support ticket (ID 40536381) on Monday regarding a drop in speed I've had for the past couple of weeks.
No reply yet, and I noticed things get picked up pretty quickly on the forum, so thought I'd put the info here too to see if anyone from Plusnet could help me out.
Will paste details below...
Cheers,
David

Re: Ticket raised re: drop in speed

Details of support ticket  #40536381:
Hi,
RE: Slow speed.
I have previously been getting stable download speeds of 3.5mb.
Since 26th Feb 2011 (after unplugging the router for about a day) I noticed a drop to 1.5mb.
Speedtests since then have shown consistent speeds around 1.5mb.
I have tested with 2 different routers, both getting the same 1.5mb speed.
I am currently plugged into the BT master test socket using a different (and brand new plusnet supplied) microfilter, with no extension wiring.
I have run 3 bt speedtests, which all show a DSL Connection Rate of around 2264 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 448 Kbps(UP-STREAM), with an IP Profile of 1750 Kbps.
Could my IP Profile need resetting?

Results of 3 speedtests below:
at 13:00 on 07/03/2011:
Download speed achieved during the test was - 1150 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 800-2000 Kbps.
Additional Information:
Your DSL Connection Rate :2272 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 448 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 1750 Kbps
The throughput of Best Efforts (BE) classes achieved during the test is - 11.88:26.67:61.48 (SBE:NBE:PBE)
These figures represent the ratio while sententiously passing Sub BE, Normal BE and Priority BE marked traffic.
The results of this test will vary depending on the way your ISP has decided to use these traffic classes.
>Upload speed  achieved during the test was - 348 Kbps
Additional Information:
Upstream Rate IP profile on your line is - 448 Kbps

Test2 at 14:30 ish
07/3/2011
Download speed achieved during the test was - 1371 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 800-2000 Kbps.
Additional Information:
Your DSL Connection Rate :2264 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 448 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 1750 Kbps
The throughput of Best Efforts (BE) classes achieved during the test is - 17.27:23.62:59.16 (SBE:NBE:PBE)
These figures represent the ratio while sententiously passing Sub BE, Normal BE and Priority BE marked traffic.
The results of this test will vary depending on the way your ISP has decided to use these traffic classes.
>Upload speed  achieved during the test was - 339 Kbps
Additional Information:
Upstream Rate IP profile on your line is - 448 Kbps
Test 3 at 16:00
07/03/2011
Download speed achieved during the test was - 1640 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 800-2000 Kbps.
Additional Information:
Your DSL Connection Rate :2264 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 448 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 1750 Kbps
The throughput of Best Efforts (BE) classes achieved during the test is - 15.63:23.16:61.22 (SBE:NBE:PBE)
These figures represent the ratio while sententiously passing Sub BE, Normal BE and Priority BE marked traffic.
The results of this test will vary depending on the way your ISP has decided to use these traffic classes.
>Upload speed  achieved during the test was - 363 Kbps
Additional Information:
Upstream Rate IP profile on your line is - 448 Kbps
Look forward to hearing from you.
David
PS the drops on my connection you may see earlier today will have been when I was swapping routers, microfilters, test sockets etc.

Re: Ticket raised re: drop in speed

HI djp,
We don't get your tickets picked up any quicker on here but can sometimes work out simple issues so that you don't have to wait to go through the faults process. I'll take a look and see if anything jumps out at me.

Re: Ticket raised re: drop in speed

HI djp,
Your line has been banded due to dropping connections (see below). Now you are plugged into the test socket, if it stays stable then we could look at getting the banding removed.

Re: Ticket raised re: drop in speed

Hi Jojo,
Thanks for looking at this.
Obviously Monday 7th is related to me messing about with different equipment etc. But other than that, are you saying that the drops that show in your graph (roughly 1 a day) are causing the connection to be banded?
If it remains roughly 1 a day, is this stable enough to get the banding lifted? (I say this because since leaving my set up as it is I still see 1 drop this morning around 6am).
Cheers,
David

Re: Ticket raised re: drop in speed

Hi David,
It's looking quite stable. Hopefully it'll stay that way. One drop a day would EDIT: wouldn't cause it to be banded but I suspect it was those multiple ones that did it.
Today's connection...

Re: Ticket raised re: drop in speed

Thanks again.
Bit ironic that by testing out all the kit my end to be able to raise an issue on a 50% drop in speed, I've now ended up getting banded which only compounds the problem!
Think it's time for Fibre!  Wink

Re: Ticket raised re: drop in speed

HI djp,
if it's still solid tomorrow I'll have the banding lifted so we can see how it performs.

Re: Ticket raised re: drop in speed

Hi djp,
Banding is now lifted and you now have a profile of 3500. I have changed this at our end too so you should see those speeds shortly.

Re: Ticket raised re: drop in speed

Thanks Jojo, that's great. I'm now seeing speeds around 3 meg again.
It may still be time to move to fibre (I can't argue with 15 meg as a minimum), but for now thanks for helping me get back to where I was.
You can close the associated ticket if you like.  Wink
Cheers,
David
