Re: Throttling

Plusnet does not throttle internet connections unless your account is in failed billing.

Which speed tester are you using and which browser?

Over wifi or over ethernet with wifi turned off?

Can you be sure that no one else and no other process is using the internet connection when you run these tests?

What time of day are you noticing this - never mind speed tests are you actually seeing any operational difficulties?

The cause of this could be any one of...

  • PC busy doing something else
  • Other applications / computer devices in your home using the internet at the same time
  • WiFi congestion
  • Variable data transmission error rates on the line cause by interference which is not quite bad enough to break the connection
  • Congestion from the exchange to the internet
  • The speed test server being overly busy

Re: Throttling

Hi there,

Are you saying the speeds only drop when someone else using the connection on another device?

Re: Throttling

Sorry to hear you're still having problems.

Our testing hasn't identified any issues with your service. If you're still having issues please follow the steps below we can investigate further please connect your computer/laptop to the router with a ethernet cable and run the BT Speedtester service here.

You must ensure that you have no other programs running at the same time such as streaming, general browsing and the most common one is antivirus programs downloading updates in the background.

This must be done on a wired connection and not wireless Once the initial result is completed please click Further Diagnostics. Please type in your phone number and click run diagnostic test.

This will run a test and send the results to the server for investigation
