Thomson TG585 v8 slow

I was getting slow sync speeds <1Mb/s with my Plusnet supplied Thomson TG585 v8, tried everything, finally plugged in my old Thomson ST546 and my ip profile shot up to 4Mb.  It's not a one off, I have alternated using each for a few days, the ST546 always gets much better speeds.  Are there any known issues with the TG585 v8 that would explain this (I'm using it wired not wireless)?  It seems odd that it works but is always slow.

Re: Thomson TG585 v8 slow

Hi mockingfaces,
I've checked your line and can see the difference in the speeds you've had. It looks like there is a bit of noise on your downstream at the moment.
Can you try the TG585 with an alternative micro-filer and let me know how you get on?.

Re: Thomson TG585 v8 slow

ok I've plugged in the TG585 with a brand new Belkin microfilter, and my ip profile fell from 4.4Mbps (with the ST546) to 0.89Mbps
The other difference I noticed is that the TG585 always reports higher downstream SN margin values than the ST546.

Re: Thomson TG585 v8 slow

Hi,
I've sent you out a new router to try, let me know how you get on with it. You should receive it in the next few days.

Chris, hang on a minute, what's this £40 deferred charge on my account?  I didn't agree to that.

perhaps if you cancel your contract early you have to pay for the router? or if you dont return it at the end? hmmm...

Re: Thomson TG585 v8 slow

When they send you a "free" router there is a £4.99 p&p charge and a £40 deferred charge for 1 year - if you stay for a year the router is then free, otherwise you have to pay an additional £40 for this router.

Re: Thomson TG585 v8 slow

Hi,
It's from when you first signed up in March and received one of our routers, so come this March the deferred contract expires. You do have the option of paying upfront for it but this way works out financially better for you.

Re: Thomson TG585 v8 slow

Chris
Thanks, it's now changed on my account from "deferred hardware £40 (upon cancellation)" to "deferred hardware £0 (upon cancellation)".  Your system is mysterious, but I'm happy to incur a liabliity of £0  Smiley  Thanks for your help.
In the meantime I've plugged in my old router again and ip profile is back up to 4Mbps, so it definitely looks like the the TG585 router is the problem.

Re: Thomson TG585 v8 slow

Much improved performance with the new Technicolor TG582n router.  Uptime 6 days, sync 6,100 kbps, ip profile 5.38 Mbps, and the plusnet profile has updated to match it.
Thanks again.
