Thomson Gateway TG585 v8 + Huawei Ascend G300 Phone

I am considering buying a new mobile phone, a Huawei Ascend G300, one review I read on the Sainsburys site says "the WiFi will not work with the Plusnet (part of BT) Technicolor wireless router. This is apparently a known issue for which there is no immediate solution. Hence no good for me." Is this true ? I can't really understand why if the router and phone both operate with 802.11g which they claim to and I haven't heard about this problem anywhere else. My router is a Thomson Gateway TG585 v8, software version 8.2.7.7 any reason why this phone will not work ?

A single bad review could just mean that the reviewer couldn't get it to work, and the review doesn't even specify the exact model of router, so you don't know if they were referring to your 585v8 or the current 582n.
However, there is a firmware update available to version 8.2.7.8 for the 585v8, and a long thread about problems with its wireless.

In summary, there's no reason why it shouldn't work, the reviewer could be wrong, but the 585v8 does have a long history of wifi problems.

I think Thomson changed its name to Technicolor in between marketing the 585v8 and the 582n so a reference to Technicolor would imply the 582n.

I know, my first thoughts were that he didn't configure it right and felt aggrieved so wrote  what he wrote. My router is working fine so I haven't upgraded the firmware, and after reading the other thread I don't think I will unless I really have to. My 3 Dell D620s are working fine on it as does my Nokia phone, Kindle and all other devices I have used in the last two years since I got this router.

UPDATE to complete the story in case anyone else reads this. It works fine, I just gave the phone a fixed IP address in my LAN and define the IP address of the DNS that I want to use.
