Re: Terrible support for slow broadband problem

You can't use Wine to run Windows programs on Linux on a Raspberry Pi because the CPU architectures are different, and Wine doesn't work on that level.

You'd have to use the Raspberry Pi version of DSLstats, which is unfortunate with a Technicolor router because I gather it clutters up the system logs with the repetitive logging in / logging out that it does.

Re: Terrible support for slow broadband problem

I will try DSLstats when I can find the time. Perhaps at the weekend.

Re: Terrible support for slow broadband problem

Hi Townman,

I had another DSL drop yesterday morning and I think that I have the stats which you requested. Any help would be gratefully appreciated.

Thanks

Re: Terrible support for slow broadband problem

Hi,

I take it that you are presently using the TG582n router?

Basically these plots look really good.  They indicate the best stats reported within this topic - SNRM is around 3dB is fairly stable and synch speed is around 18Mbps.  A review of the speed stats would be useful please.

Please post your router stats; for PN TG582n and 2704n routers use the buttons below, for other routers look at the Kitz link.

Also run a BT Wholesale speed test (ideally using an Ethernet wired PC with the WiFi turned off) then run the further diagnostics and post the results here. DO NOT REBOOT the router!

Also find your CURRENT SPEED (PlusNet line profile) from the PlusNet user portal - you will need to log in.

There is however the matter of the glitch around 9:00 when the SNRM just crashed and the resynch looks like it took 3 minutes.  Do you have any electrical equipment which might have switched on at that time?

Altering the y-axis values to -2 to 9 will make the plot more granular.  Please keep logging - it will be useful to see if the shape of the drools are similar.  Note the front edge of the drop is gradual.  Is the sample interval 10 seconds?  See my link below for guidance on configuring RS - that's for the full product, but many of the suggested settings are good for the lite version.

@CRT - can you please post a VR plot?

Re: Terrible support for slow broadband problem

I am indeed using the TG582n router. Here are the router stats:

Data Transferred (Sent/Received) [MB/GB]: 775.79 / 16.01
Output Power (Up/Down) [dBm]: 11.5 / 0.0
Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]: 10.6 / 22.0
SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]: 16.2 / 3.3
System Vendor ID (Local/Remote): TMMB / ----
Chipset Vendor ID (Local/Remote): BDCM / IFTN
Loss of Framing (Local/Remote): 75 / 0
Loss of Signal (Local/Remote): 10 / 0
Loss of Power (Local/Remote): 0 / 0
Loss of Link (Remote): -
Error Seconds (Local/Remote): 296 / 3
FEC Errors (Up/Down): 932 / 45,742
CRC Errors (Up/Down): 5 / 6
HEC Errors (Up/Down): 2 / 13

1. Best Effort Test: -provides background information.

  Download  Speed
  15.42 Mbps

0 Mbps 21 Mbps
Max Achievable Speed

Download speedachieved during the test was - 15.42 Mbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 4 Mbps-21 Mbps.
IP Profile for your line is - 16.18 Mbps

2. Upstream Test: -provides background information.

  Upload Speed
  0.49 Mbps

0 Mbps 0.83 Mbps
Max Achievable Speed

Upload speed achieved during the test was - 0.49Mbps
 Additional Information:
Upstream Rate IP profile on your line is - 0.83 Mbps

I am not aware of any electrical equipment that might have been switched on at the time of the problem.

I have altered the y-axis values to -2 to 9 and will continue to monitor. The sample interval is 15 seconds.

Could you please explain what a VR plot is?

Many thanks.

Re: Terrible support for slow broadband problem

A VR plot is a Visual Radius graph, that shows you your online / offline time, disconnects etc and is quite useful.

Re: Terrible support for slow broadband problem

Thanks for the explanation. As far as I understand these matters, I'm reliant on PN to produce VR graphs. Is that correct?

I do not not have a VR graph covering the period of the 5 recent DSL drops. I will request PN to produce the graph and I'll post it once I have it. Realistically, it's going to be the start of next week before PN get back to me.

Re: Terrible support for slow broadband problem

Those router stats look really good.  The US data rate is a bit on the low side for the profile.  Can you please post the US SNRM plot please?  Also the PlusNet current speed - see link above.

Yes the VR plot will come from PlusNet - usually a @@CRT psuedo tag gets their attention.

Re: Terrible support for slow broadband problem

Also, check the firmware version of the 582n, and upgrade it to a 10.2 firmware if it isn't already.

Re: Terrible support for slow broadband problem

From where do I get the US SNRM plot please?

PN Current line speed:16.1 Mb

Current router firmware is 10.2.2.B

Many thanks.

Re: Terrible support for slow broadband problem

Here is the visual radius graph for the past month:

I can't see any particular pattern emerging.

Re: Terrible support for slow broadband problem

There are some disconnection clusters, but otherwise fairly OK.

US SNRM might not be available with the light product. Upgrading to the full product might be useful.

Re: Terrible support for slow broadband problem

Hi there @leicray Sorry to read of the ongoing connection problems you've been through.

As well as seeing the above radius graph to be stable, testing your line, it looks like things are a lot better now.

Upstream DSL Link Information Downstream DSL Link Information
Loop Loss: 10.6 22.0
SNR Margin: 15.5 3.3
Errored Seconds: 0 0
HEC Errors: 0
Cell Count: 4505 4346
Speed: 888 18338

I'd advise to keep an eye on this and if things start to become unstable, just reply to the open ticket on your account and we'll investigate this further for you.

Re: Terrible support for slow broadband problem

Things do look stable again: no DSL drops in the last 3 days. I'll keep monitoring.

Thanks to all who have responded to my requests.
