I must admit that I failed to understand 95% of what has been written. However, it does prove just how useful is this excellent forum. Some of the PN staff (no names!) could even take some extra leave!

Glad you're up and running. 
Don't know how far you've got, but if you set both routers to use the same wireless name (SSID) and same wireless password but use different wireless channels. You should then automatically and seamlessly connect to whichever router is the closest (best signal) as you move around the house.
