I set up a network to access my files on a external HDD which is connected to my router via USB port. It works very well when i use PC, but my mac doesn't support it and it says "The version of the server you are trying to connect to is not supported". I have contacts plus net technical support team and they were not able to make any comment.
I googled it and finally found the reason... "Lion maintains a list of authentication methods that are not allowed. These are the older, less secure authentication methods." !!!!!
now I have two questions:
1- why plus net sold us an old, non-secure technology which is not mac-compatible?
2- is there anyway to fix this problem? or i need to but another router?
thanx

Which type of mac are you using?
Is it an older mac that doesn't support the newer protocols ?
My PlusNet supplied router (before March 2012)
Thomson TG585 v8 Software Release: 8.2.7.8
Works perfectly for me, new iMac 10.7.4
And older iMac 10.6.8
Wi-Fi for both ( and both at the same time, no problems )
Ask for one of those if nothing else works...
Have you clicked on the links for 852n on this page ?

There are at least a couple of Apple techno bods on the forum who can probably help you some more.

Quote I have the TG587 and so far its worked great (touch wood) I've hooked up a USB HDD to it giving be 2Tb of shared storage. One of the cheap WD drives. It powers down when not in use. The only problem I've for found is with OS X Lion, can't use it. Apparently the new Mac OS has tighter security when it comes to NAS and can only be fixed with a firmware update to the NAS.
If it helped click the thumb
If it fixed it click 'This fixed my problem'

I'm sure when I joined I mentioned I used Apple iMac.
And OS 10.6.8
@yoop, did you inform PN of your equipment & OS ?
OS X 10.7 Lion was released on July 20, 2011
Before the 852n was supplied from March 2012. Presumably compatibility was checked by PN ?

It looks as though the problem started with the upgrade to 10.7.4 which only happened this month although I could be completely wrong

And perhaps clarify some points / answer some questions.
Post & Run is not a good trait.

If you start a contentious thread you should at least sit across it for a while to await responses.
And respond yourself.
Less than 30 minutes from registration to posting, they could have waited another 30 minutes.
My initial reply was only 24 minutes after the thread started, with another reply from dvorak within the hour.
Perhaps they will come back some time today ?
Otherwise we're like TV in-vision journo's who interview each other !
