Having just reorganized all my backups and transferred files every which way due to the lack of enough space to copy whole drives and then format, I have finally had enough of the WiFi performance and lack of gigabit LAN on the Thompson router.
Hunting around I have spotted the TP-Link TD-W8970 (http://www.tp-link.com/en/products/details/?model=TD-W8970), which seems to have favourable opinions particularly for the money (approx £50) but how does it preform on Plusnet and in particular ADSL2+, does anyone know?
Alternatively I could plump for the DGND3700 (http://www.netgear.co.uk/home/products/wirelessrouters/high-performance/dgnd3700.aspx) which is a bit more than I wanted to pay really, besides I don't have a use for DLNA.
Oops I submitted before making the title more explanatory, oh well I guess you what it's about now.

Those two routers are based on different chipsets:
TD-W8970: Lantiq (with Atheros wifi)
DGND3700: Broadcom
Lantiq / Infineon is used in some BTHubs such as the BTHub4 and the brand of BT equipment at the other end is usually Infineon (IFTN) in newer ADSL2+ exchanges. On the other hand, Broadcom based routers are popular with people who like drawing graphs of ADSL stats. Whichever brand of chipset works better in general will not necessarily be the one which works better on your line.
