TG585v7 forgets my lan connections when "New Stations Are Not Allowed" is set.

Hi, I'm having a few problems with a new router from Plusnet (replacement for old D-Link router), the Thomson TG585v7.
The first problem is how do I switch to "New Stations Are Not Allowed" on the Wireless Access Point security screen without locking out all my wireless LAN connections(PC, Laptop and Nintendo DS, all setup and given there own IP addresses on the Local Network Devices screen)? I have to switch back to "New Stations Are Allowed" via ethernet cable.
the second problem is about port forwarding; the port I used to P2P with my old router (port 52000) no-longer works with the new one. I set up a rule for the P2P TCP port on the Game or Application Definition screen but the P2P application reports my connection as being "Firewalled". I have the Plusnet and Comodo firewalls switched on, and MS Windows firewall switched off -as with my old Router setup- with the only difference being the new TG585v7 router.
Oh yeah, does the Access Control List have any connection to the Network Devices screen, it's mentioned in the WAP Help page but can't find it anywhere?
Thank you for any help provided.

You're not alone Agent47 - I've recently got a 'PlusNet Thomson TG585v7' router and I'm having exactly the same issue.
I would be VERY interested in a solution to this issue.
Thanks in anticipation

Re: TG585v7 forgets my lan connections when "New Stations Are Not Allowed" is set.

There is another manual version which mentions it on page 40
I have added it to my webspace as it doesn't seem to be generally available
http://www.holtlane.plus.com/files/TG585-v7_SetupUserGuide_en.pdf
However if you want to view the list this needs a CLI telnet command  wireless station list

Re: TG585v7 forgets my lan connections when "New Stations Are Not Allowed" is set.

Many thanks Oldjim for the link to the SetupUserGuide, as you note it's not readily available!.
After following the instructions on page 40 my 'Pick a task list' only includes:
Assign a game or application to a local network device
&
Assign the public IP address of  a connection to a device
nothing like 'Search for wireless devices'
I don't understand your final comment, is it some action I need to take to get the above to appear?
Thanks

See picture for how to open a telnet command window - could just type CMD in the run box in the start menu to get to the command prompt window

Re: TG585v7 forgets my lan connections when "New Stations Are Not Allowed" is set.

I have been looking at another manual and this doesn't include that option at all http://www.thomson.net/GlobalEnglish/customer-service/SpeedTouchDocuments/xDSLGA-Wireless_SetupUserG...
I am beginning to wonder if the latest firmware has taken a load of the options out - that would be typical of Thompson  Crazy

Re: TG585v7 forgets my lan connections when "New Stations Are Not Allowed" is set.

I concur Jim,
The version of the manual I had was
SetupUserGuide_TG585v7_en_102008.pdf
And I am NOT saying that is latest - just what I have.
It does seem difficult to find technical information on the 585v7 - Thomson's website is not exactly easy to navigate.
So yes - can PN please ask Thomson for the latest manual for the current firmware release - and keep a copy of it on the PN help pages .
My TG585v7 has the same "New Stations Are Not Allowed" option on the wifi setup pages -

Re: TG585v7 forgets my lan connections when "New Stations Are Not Allowed" is set.

and that is one reason I wouldn't touch the "free" router but bought a Netgear which is much easier to setup and configure without needing to use the CLI

OK - I've sent a PM to James B asking for help

I'm not confident with CLI telnet - but I followed the instructions and got to the wireless station list BUT then what?
However it would appear from above, that the problem may be connected with plusnet's firmware and it might be best for me to wait for a response from James B? Huh

I've checked Jim, and the "New station not allowed" functionality is still there in the latest version of software ( including the trial TR69 version we are testing ) .

Re: TG585v7 forgets my lan connections when "New Stations Are Not Allowed" is set.

I raised a ticket about my troubles I posted in this thread and got fobbed-off with the reply below,  with 'Kind regards' from link:csa removed Roll_eyes
'Thank you for your query. As a router that we supply we can assist you with the basic set up of the router for the broadband connection. However, the settings that you are attempting to adjust are beyond our support remit. Please contact Thomson directly for further assistance.'
It's not such a problem now, not being able to use NAT blocking, as I have upgraded my net work to WPA-PSK security (can't have the DS on my network now Sad , oh well). The more important thing for me now is to have proper access to my network's ports.
There are some interesting ideas to try in this thread, thank you all.
I'm not alone then. I thought, for a while, I'd been sent to Coventry Wink

Re: TG585v7 forgets my lan connections when "New Stations Are Not Allowed" is set.

Oh - well - maybe that is fair enough - how much support can a company give for hardware they don't make - ?
but what is promising is the community support library.
http://community.plus.net/library/
http://community.plus.net/library/category/hardware/
Unfortunately there is not a lot there on the TG585 at the moment  - but we are hoping to do something about that.
A few of us have been given TG585's for testing new firmware and features - so hopefully we can put something together.
Thomsoms website is near to useless I fear.
For an average router - I think the TG585 is fine - it does the job, gives out a good wifi signal and I'm sure suits the vast majority of PN users, so makes a good "free" router for ISP's to provide. Some users of course have more specialist requirements and other routers may be a good investment for such people, and the Netgear DG834 series seem to be held in high regard by many. I have two of them - and find them easier to setup than Thomsons.

Maybe renaming this thread then to reflect your second question - it might attract the attention of some experts ?

I'm very disappointed in the response Agent47 got from Plusnet; surely security settings are part of the 'basic set up'. The firmware appears to have been customised for Plusnet and as such it is their responsibility to provide support to their users. Personally I just want to secure my router by restricting wireless access to registered devices only.  Angry
