TG585v7 DMZ problem

I'm trying to configure the DMZ feature on my Plusnet supplied TG585v7. When I configure via the web interface, the router hangs - no longer responds to http, telnet or ping. After a power cycle, it comes back up with 'factory default' configuration. I've also tried configuring it by CLI and the router still hangs, but after a reboot it at least comes back up with the last saved configuration. Is anybody successfully using this feature on the v7?

Re: TG586v7 DMZ problem

You sure you are using the DMZ option and not the bridge option? The DMZ will ask for an ip to forward the traffic to the bridge won't, the difference is that under DMZ the router stays as a router, but under bridge mode it behaves like a modem.

Re: TG586v7 DMZ problem

I can't configure bridging via the web interface. The DMZ feature is configured by clicking on "Assign the public IP address of a connection to a device"

Re: TG586v7 DMZ problem

OK, if you are assigning the public ip then, you will loose the ability to contact the 192.x.x.x address from THAT PC. I did this originally on my 716 but in the end just forwarded the ports I needed to my Linux firewall as it killed my voip connection (on the 716 itself) You should still be able to access the web page from another pc connected via to it.
You could also define a new app called dmz and forward everything to it, then assign it to your pc you want to be dmz'ed.

Re: TG586v7 DMZ problem

Hi Euclid,
I've recently just received the same router from plusnet, and I'm quite frustrated by this.  Just to sort out some confusion:
Biker, the "DMZ" feature on this router (which is locked down, to some degree) is a sort of bridged mode whereby one machine on your private network is meant to be assigned the public address;  this is indeed different to any other router's DMZ feature that I've ever encountered whereby all inbound traffic regardless of transport level protocol is sent to an address on the private network chosen by the user.
I use this setup so I can send everything to my server, rather than setting up individual port forwards, as not all my traffic is necessarily TCP or UDP, but with th TG585v7 no traffic seems to flow at all.
I've searched around google and it seems many people have similar issues with this router.
Regards,
Justin

Re: TG585v7 DMZ problem

It seems this feature is broken. Anybody from Plusnet know if this is a known firmware issue?

I guess not. I'll have to buy a different router.

Re: TG585v7 DMZ problem

Hey euclid...
I hope I caught you just in time...  don't necessarily rush out to buy a new router.
Today I got round to trying some stuff out.  My reasoning was this:
- The router was free from plusnet
- It's already broken, so I'd resigned myself to buying a new one of my own anyway, therefore messing without couldn't make things any worse.
I did a little more googling and found this forum message:
http://forums.thinkbroadband.com/dslrouter/3539327-plusnet039s-tg585-v7.html?fpart=2&vc=1
This linked me to:
http://ipstore.us/info_support_int.html
I clicked the link named "TG-585v7 Upgrade Wizard w/7.4 (ZIP - 6.75M)" which downloaded:
http://ipstore.us/software/upgrade_wizards/with_latest_firmware/TG-585v7%20Upgrade%20Wizard%20w74%20...
Ran the wizard, it takes quite a long time, I have to say, then the wizard thought it had lost the connection to the router, but I noticed windows seemed happy enough and had been given an address.  I went to http://dsldevice.lan/ and lo and behold, I have a more generic Thomson page, with out all the plusnet customisation.  (That said, it's not that disimilar, and there weren't really any more configuration options available).
It's getting late tonight, so I've only done some brief testing, but I can report to you that I successfully configured the router only using the web interface (no hacking config files, telnet, etc) to assign my desktop the public address.  To my amazement, it worked properly and packets were flowing normally.  Even better though, you're still able to access the management page on the router itself at 192.168.1.254.  I'd guess therefore, if you had additional clients, they might also work as expected with other RFC1918 addresses.
The only other tests I performed were a power cycle of the router to make sure it remember the settings, and this time it did.  I also checked my desktop (which runs XP) could receive some form of incoming connection, this worked ok.  I'll do some more extensive tests in the next few days with a proper OS and see just how much actually comes in, and how well the router performs under some sort of load.
So far, I'm impressed though.  Will keep you posted!
Only other point I should mention, the firmware version has gone from 7.4.4.7 to 7.4.2.something, so it is some form of downgrade, you may want to be warey of this.
Cheers,

Re: TG585v7 DMZ problem

I'm not sure of this site is any good - it has a lot more user manuals for the TG585 :
V3 of the user guide.
Ethernet setup guide
Ethernet QoS guide
ATM QoS Guide
VLAN Configurarion Guide
IPQoS Configuration guide
Stateful Inspection Firewall configuration guide
TR-069 configuration guide
http://www.technostation.com/user-guide-owners-manual/Thomson/THOMSON+TG585v7
http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=tg585v7+manual&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-GB:officia...
It is the no link on a Google search for TG585v7 manual

Also Thomson's partner support page.
I've not explored this yet as I've just found it, so please let us know if you find a guide which helps with DMZ

Re: TG585v7 DMZ problem

Exactly the problem I run into 3 months ago was told to put my PS3 into a DMZ to sort the issue with Fifa, but low and behold the supplied router is poo and trying to put it into a DMZ is just a mere, so gone back to my old Netgear.  Fifa still wont work properly, and if I want to leave I have to pay Plusnet for a crap router that hasnt worked 100% since day 1.
