TG585 v7 reboots

Anyone know what causes the TG585 to do "kernel warm restarts"?
Mine seems to have decided to start doing these quite frequently, and of course if it does it during the day it connects at a higher speed than it can maintain when it goes dark and then I get 100s of thousands  of FEC errors.

Re: TG585 v7 reboots

Hi Steve,
I believe that this is a known issue which Thomson are fixing for the next firmware update.  I'll ask Bob to confirm in a bit as he's been dealing with Thomson.

Re: TG585 v7 reboots

It has been cited as an issue with the 7.4.4.7 firmware in the past - is that the version you're using Steve? If so, would it help if I was to forward you some updated firmware?

Bob, yes I'm on the 7.4.4.7 firmware and I'm happy to try upgrading it to a later revision.

Re: TG585 v7 reboots

is there anything specific about 7.4.4.7 as that is what I have, the netmeter shows a lot of traffic to the router that I didnt get on the old 2110 that I have, but it has currently been up for 25+ days, no drop of line

Re: TG585 v7 reboots

The Easy Start TG585 router that I have just received from PN has 7.4.4.7.
But I'm not going to change it as it's part of the trial.
Not sure what the original TG585 has.

Re: TG585 v7 reboots

Hey Bob,
I appear to be having the same issues with my router constantly rebooting. It's a Thompson TG585 v7 Firmware: 7.4.4.7.
If this is something addressed by a firmware update, could i get a copy of that also? Are the firmware updates published anywhere or do you have to "ask" for them?
I have been trying to get to the bottom of my naff connection for quite some time now.. Seems a tad frustrating that it would be a known issue..

If you're suffering from reboots, and are unable to upgrade to the latest firmware, try turning off UPNP on the router.

Re: TG585 v7 reboots

Thanks for the comment Barry, but i have a Thompson Router supplied by PlusNet, so if there is an updated firmware to fix the issue, i really need that.  Looking at the Thompson website they only seem to be offering the 7.4.4.7 firmware for download. Of course it wouldnt have been that simple anyway, as i have the "Plusnetted" version on my current router.
unless i am mistaken, this thread seems to suggest a newer firmware is out there, which makes troubleshooting the exact same issue (by disabling UPnP) a bit pointless for now.

And does the Beta firmware fix that problem?

Re: TG585 v7 reboots

As far as I know there is no 'general release' version of the firmware later than 7.4.4.7.  A small number of PUG and Community members are testing a slightly modified version as part of some trials, but there are still some issues yet to be resolved.
The Reboot problem was reported some time back, but I do not believe a 'fix' is yet in the firmware version we are testing.  As Barry suggests, switching off UPNP did seem to alleviate the problem for the User reporting it.  Worth a try.

PS If I go away for a while its because I'm just about to reflash the Router for another of the tests Grin

Re: TG585 v7 reboots

Does the Beta fix the fact that Summer time keeps getting turned off on router if you tell it to use PlusNets time server, which of course means that as the PN time server thinks its 6:44 GMT all the times in the router are off by one hour

When I was trying out a TG585v7 I found (and loaded) a generic 8.2.3.7 firmware. Can't really tell you whether it fixes any known issues as the router is currently living in it's box Smiley Seemed to work OK though.
