TG582n wireless reliability

Is it just me, or is this hiding gremlins?
ARP scanning often reveals results from only the router, local SSH connections are being timed out very frequently with machines seemingly becoming unreachable, I've never known anything like it.

There are a lot of complaints although some people seem to have no trouble. I won't use one any more after having so much trouble - probably due to a lot of devices being attached to be fair.

I still can't connect with the exact same router. Almost down for 24 hours now; and I'm still trying to contact Plusnet...

We seem to be fine during the day (some speed fluctuations however) but at night it regularly needs rebooting.
Our Homehub (ex-BT customers) never did this. I'm tempted to go back to the Homehub and see what happens.
No issues other than that.

As I was posting this it did its "red light of doom" hence requiring a reboot....

Now connected my Home Hub as per the instructions on these forums and there is a speed increase, stronger wifi connection and so far no drop out.
I'll keep the Technicolor as a back up methinks

At least it was only a fiver I guess.
What is it I need to look for in an alternative to know it'll work with FTTC? (I don't want to daisy chain even via ethernet off the TG582n as I'm short on power sockets).

I gather I need a router with a VDSL modem? Thinking about the Asus DSL-AC68U but it's not cheap so want to be sure it's right.
If the router has a modem, what's the point of the Openreach box?

If you're using a VDSL router (i.e one with a built in modem) you don't need to use the Openreach box.

Apparently the VDSL2 modem in the Asus DSL-AC68U and DSL-N66U isn't very good.

The router would need to be able to establish a PPPoE connection in order to connect.

Thanks. I went with an Asus RT-AC66U. It's certainly faster.
