TG582n router Guest Account?

With a PlusNet supplied TG582n is it possible to set up a guest account? one that has its own login and password to use the wireless or ethernet and doesn't have access to settings?  Seems common on other routers but I can't find it on this TG582n.

I don't understand what you want to do  Embarrassed
Why do you want anyone to have access - even limited - to the router
For ethernet they don't need access to the router and for wireless you just need to allow access to the relevant machine and they don't need to do anything else

Re: TG582n router Guest Account?

I think he wants to set up a second WIFI network that guests can use with a separate password etc. Sadly I have no idea if this is possible or how.

Re: TG582n router Guest Account?

I think keeping the WIFI separate from the ethernet may be possible but separating the ethernet connections certainly isn't
Looking here http://techietools.co.uk/router/Technicolor/TG582n setting up a user account may be possible
Click on Toolbox then User Management

Re: TG582n router Guest Account?

Yes its to be able to allow guests to use the internet or even things like the printer (on ethernet) when visiting without giving them a password which gives them potential access to everything.  Looked at the link for commands to do this, wow complicated.  Thought most now just had a simple GUI that did all of this.
Sometimes this is set up so children can log in, but then on their account can have some sites restricted while not restricting the rest of the system.

Re: TG582n router Guest Account?

Hi there,
AFAIK the router is only capable of offering a log-in to a single SSID, hence one username, one password.

Re: TG582n router Guest Account?

Adam, could you explain the attached extract from the TG582n brochure then?
It seems to me to suggest 4 possible SSIDs but that only one is secure, the others being open. Waiting for mine to arrive so I haven't had the opportunity to play with it yet!

Adam, I've got a guest network running according to the instructions on that site.

Separate SSID, separate WPA password. People on that network can access the web, but can't see the router login page, print on the network printer, share files with the main network etc. etc.

Re: TG582n router Guest Account?

You'd need to set up the ports again.  I think Matt might have detailed that on here somewhere...
