Hi,
I have a TG582n router. I have recently started using the Google Drive sync tool. This works when the firewall on the router is switched off but not when it's switched on. Please can you advise how I open up the ports??? that this needs to operate?
I found this article on Google which lists the requirements:
https://support.google.com/drive/answer/2589954
I'm comfortable using telnet / the router cli.
Thank you.

Hi Cyril
Happy New year and a warm welcome to the forum
Have a look at http://npr.me.uk/forwardports.html which explains how to forward the ports using Telnet

That Google article is talking about outbound connections, which are not required to configure on the TG582n as outbound ports are not blocked.
I can't think why the router firewall appears to be blocking google drive from working. I've used Drive (iOS app) without any problems before with the TG582n.

All,
Thank you for your replies.
However, I think it's an issue with the router / PlusNet settings as Google Drive sync works when connected via a WiFi hotspot broadcast by my phone and also works when connected to the network at work.
@TORPC,
I'm not sure I'd want to forward the ports as there is more than one computer on my LAN runing Google Drive sync. I'm not sure that Google Drive sync is acting as a server process where this would be necessary?

Odd, looking at https://support.google.com/drive/answer/2589954?hl=en it seems it's all done over port 443 (standard https port) so it should just work fine. What happens when it fails?

Hi Matt,
Thanks for the reply.
It also uses JABBER (or XMPP) on port 5222. I've seen posts on forums that have pointed to this as being an issue when this port is blocked.
The sync tool starts, gets a list of files that need to be sync'd and then attempts to start the sync. However, it reports "Unable to connect" after a period. It then repeats this process of reconnecting and attempting to starts the sync again but fails each time.

The technicolor router has a application helper for "jabber" on port 5222.
Ensure the router has UPnP enabled.
Also these ALG helpers tend to work better, IMO, when the PC is getting it's IP address via DHCP.
