Syncing (sinking) at a stinking 416 kbps...

Hi James, I trust your well.
I've been quiet as connection has been solid for the last few months however yesterday evening my connection refused to sync above 416 kbps although stats remain more or less unchanged?
I left the router unplugged all night and it sync'd at the normal 1900 kbps this morning. However it's gone back to sync'ing at 416 kbps any ideas?
I've not been able to run http://speedtester.bt.com/ as it's been busy all evening! Grrr
Thanks in advance, DM.

Filtered at BT Master socket via. ADSL Nation faceplate. No spikes apparent on stat logs that co-incide with any known events.
Netgear DG834N (FW V1.01.06)
My gut feel is that problem is either at the DSLAM or external to my house.

Hi dirtymonkey.
James doesn't work here anymore. Wink
Do you have anything else connected to your phoneline?  Could you possibly remove *everything* except for your router and then reboot it to set what level of SNR you then see?

Re: Syncing (sinking) at a stinking 416 kbps...

Hi Gloria, thanks for the update, shame to see him gone he was very helpful.
As previously stated the line is filtered at the master socket and plugged into the master socket. Additional extensions are on a seperate circuit so removing them would have no effect to my SNR.

Re: Syncing (sinking) at a stinking 416 kbps...

Thanks DM.
If you reboot a few times, does it normally sync at ~1900Kbps or ~5000Kbps?
If it is initially syncing at ~1900Kbps and susequenmtly dropping, then it would suggest that there is a problem.

I just tried using the online connection problem tool and it falls over when trying to run the 'online connection tests' 'We were unable to complete your requested action. This may be the result of a temporary fault.
Please try again in a few minutes.'

monkey,
I had the same type of situation when I moved, BT had to conduct a lift and shift to resolve. Your internals sound fine (adsl nation plates are good kit)

Thanks DM.
You did actually have two open tickets.  You don't anymore Wink
I've rasied your fault to BT requesting that they look into your problem.  I'll pass your regards onto James.
Sophos9 - Your issue was different to an extent.  DM is a long, long way from the exchange, which is probably part of the issue here.

Re: Syncing (sinking) at a stinking 416 kbps...

DM has a downstream attenuation of 62dB.
So we're probably talking about 3 miles plus.  Or 5 kilometres for those of you that like metric.

I just took a shower and the router has re-sync'd to 1952 kbps... perhaps I should wash more regulary and I may get a better connection... Wink
