Re: Synch speed down to 1000 Kbps why?

Attached are the router stats I've pulled off (bit of a light sleeper of late)
Good/bad?

Re: Synch speed down to 1000 Kbps why?

looking good but if you download Routerstats http://www.vwlowen.co.uk/internet/files.htm you can use it to track the noise margin and speeds also if you use it to telnet in you get a screen like this which gives a lot more information.
Note to get it to work you may need to put this line in your browser first http://192.168.0.1/setup.cgi?todo=debug it only needs to be done once unless the router is rebooted

Re: Synch speed down to 1000 Kbps why?

Good news.
Although it is not under any transfer load at present (as I'm at work), member centre reports that my synch speed is now 1750 Kbps.  Smiley

Remember that's not your sync speed - It's your IP Profile.

Re: Synch speed down to 1000 Kbps why?

Oh yes, keep mixing them up.
Gosh I prefer Ethernet!
Figures moving in the right direction though?
Hopeing I've conquered the problem I've had with all ISPs since going always on in 2005.

Yep, unless you're trying to make your connection slower.

Re: Synch speed down to 1000 Kbps why?

No course not!
Bring on fibre to the home and ethernet throughout.
Suppose I should have bought a DMT supporting router before, ah the benefit of hindsight.
Be interesting to see how it goes tonight as its patch Tuesday, grrrr.

Re: Synch speed down to 1000 Kbps why?

That won't impact your sync speeds though, it'll just potentially impact throughput.

Re: Synch speed down to 1000 Kbps why?

So long as it translates into speedier downloads and browsing, I don't really care.

Re: Synch speed down to 1000 Kbps why?

Appears I spoke too soon
Noise margin has jumped to 14 db and am getting between 350 and 550 kbps and router reports downstream of 854 Kbps, which is frankly lousy
Member centre still shows 1750 Kbps but I expect that will drop.
Do I try to lock the router to G DMT or leave on auto?
Can someone from PN please contact BT and ask them what's going on at the exchange (or rather what have they fiddled with that's recently screwed  the connection)

Re: Synch speed down to 1000 Kbps why?

I've locked the router to G.DMT, its reported downstream speed has increased to 1920 Kbps and noise margin has dropped to 7.2
I then conducted three speed tests on PN's own network based tester

2.

Any ideas from helpful PN folk please?

Re: Synch speed down to 1000 Kbps why?

And a BT speed test
Test1 comprises of Best Effort Test:  -provides background information.
    Your DSL connection rate: 1920 kbps(DOWN-STREAM),  448 kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP profile for your line is - 750 kbps
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 676 kbps
Could someone contact Bt about this please?

Re: Synch speed down to 1000 Kbps why?

Unfortunately carrying out speedtests immediately after a resync at a higher speed is a waste of time and bandwidth. It takes up to 5 days for the DLM at the exchange to increase your IP profile (timescale depending on the size of the increase) and until that happens you are stuck with the lower speed.
Of course life isn't fair and if your sync speed reduces the DLM responds with 75 minutes.
Sadly it's how BT implemented maxDSL.

Re: Synch speed down to 1000 Kbps why?

So I should really wait 5 days and raise a fault if nothing improves then?
I feel ridiculous moaning as its perfectly usable for browsing but it slows up downloads etc.
