Synch Speed dropped to 3000

My stable rate has always been 7000, now suddenly it's showing as 3000. Can you explain why this should be?

Re: Synch Speed dropped to 3000

Hi there,
It looks like you had a sync blip at 2016Kbps at about 8am this morning hence the slowdown in speed.
If you have a read of the broadband speed link in my signature, there's a load of explanation in there.
Your speeds should increase again within the next 3 days should maintain a higher level of sync speed.

Re: Synch Speed dropped to 3000

Thanks for that James. Checked out your info. We did have an issue with the phone suddenly not working this morning. Bypassing the microfilter and plugging straight into the master socket - the dial tone came back. Turns out the micro filter must have become faulty because swapping it over with another solved the problem. If my sync rate has gone back to normal how come my speed won't change for 3 days?

Re: Synch Speed dropped to 3000

Because BT have deemed it so Sad
It's the way the system works.  If you have a sync drop, BT drop your profile within 75 minutes.  If your sync speed increases, they take up to 3 days.

Re: Synch Speed dropped to 3000

Just one other thing James. My modem is reporting a rate of 7448. Does that confirm things will be fine once BT decide it is?

Re: Synch Speed dropped to 3000

Hiya,
A sync speed of 7488Kbps will give you a profiled speed of 6500Kbps.
Clarification on the wndrous joys of sync speeds can be found here:

Re: Synch Speed dropped to 3000

esseff,
I've had this happen not so long ago and it only took the BT system 1 day to bring my profile back up to match the line sync. So hopefully you will find the same thing happen for you. If not, as James has said, it will usually sort itself within 3 days.

Re: Synch Speed dropped to 3000

According to plusnet's Stable Rate page, my sync rate dropped from 7000 to 3000 when the blip occured, stayed like that all day, and is now showing as 1500 even though what caused the blip was sorted straight away! Yet, according to my modem I'm over 7000. Why should this be?

If I remember right Plusnet only updates their page overnight while BT update it a lot more frequently.

Yes, but why should it drop by half again, when it had stabilised at 3000, and what had caused the blip was sorted?

Re: Synch Speed dropped to 3000

Esseff,
As per our previous discussions, this will take a few days for BT to correct your IP Profile.
Our speed profiles update about twice a day.  If you need me to, I'm always happy to give the profile at our end a little poke.

By all means please poke away Wink But I'm just concerned as to why it now shows at 1500?

STOP PRESS!
Looks like we've had an update from BT.  It's now showing as 6000Kbps.
Miond rebooting your router and see if you get an improvement in speed?

Rebooted. Modem's reporting a sync rate of 7232.
Ran a speed test - just over 5.1 mbps.
However, while I'm glad the sync rate/profile has gone up a lot faster than I was expecting, 6000kbps is quite a bit lower than it was before this blip happened. Should I be concerned that it hasn't simply returned to its previous 7000 figure?

Re: Synch Speed dropped to 3000

As I mentioned earlier, this should ultimately increase to 6.5Mbps.  you won't be able to see any faster than that without your sync speed increasing to 7968kbps or above.
