Re: Sync speed and IP Profile anomaly?

OK, you self appointed experts, how come every conceivable avenue has been tried and still two routers have the same problem?

Amateur opinion is one thing, technical knowledge quite another.

PN: please respond!

Re: Sync speed and IP Profile anomaly?

Oh and you "experts" please explain how downstream line attenuation has gone from c.6db to c.17 over the last few years.

ejs, with respect, you really don't understand anything.

I'm an ex IT bod with experience and deep knowledge of these systems from the very first packet switching comms. I don't need you or anyone else to tell me your misguided opinion, I want the problem of an external line sorted.

I was in a very remote location an hour ago. The wifi d/l speed was 42mbps, upload was nearly 12 - we can't get 13 d/l but used to get 19. Obviously, I know the higher speed was FTTC but the cabinet is nearly three miles from my then location.

I'm 0.7km from the exchange. No neighbour has a problem like ours. We are on a spur off the main line. Two BT engineers say there's an underground copper line fault. BT refuse to investigate.

There are far too many people here who think they know everything. Unfortunately, they don't but I do (nearly!) and what I am experiencing on this line is basic: a cabling fault.

What I need is technological knowledge and the nous for dealing with a state monopoly.

Given what you say above, Mardler, and if PN won't push BT/Openreach or whoever is responsible for fixing an identified underground cable fault, could you not involve you local MP? I would have said councillor , but in my experience that wouldn't be very effective.

Yes, John, that's my next step. Happily, I know my MP well and he's a good guy.

Re: Sync speed and IP Profile anomaly?

Outage last night c.19.00.

Sync 15.381, SNR 9, attn 17 (up 1), IPP 13.57 (down zero point zero eight*), PN line speed 13.5 (down 0.1), d/l speed (Ookla) 12.83

Connection STILL degrading!

Re: Sync speed and IP Profile anomaly?

Connection broken at c.07.50 yesterday (17.02.21).

Reconnect:-

sync 15.165 (down 0.220), SNR 5 (DOWN 4!!!), speed 12.83 (similar)

IPP 13.38 (was 13.57), PN line speed 13.5 (13.6)

CONNECTION STILL DEGRADING!!!

Re: Sync speed and IP Profile anomaly?

Connection up and stable for 272hrs. SNR still 9db just 0.8km from the exchange. Sync 15.165, d/l 12.85 (Ookla) 4.46 (BTW!) IPP 13.38 (BTW).

It looks as though the bad line is handled better by the Netgear than the Thompson and maybe the latter has a fault (but a nearby PN 582 is connected flawlessly at near maximum sync given PN's slugging of the line speed).

I am in the process of buying another router.

Thanks to all for the input especially Tony T at PN. We have established that the problem is a copper line fault and that the 582n router can't handle it.

I shall start another topic asking PN to raise my line speed (adjust SNRM) to see how the DG834Gv2 copes.

Mods: please lock this topic.

Re: Sync speed and IP Profile anomaly?

The 10.2 Technicolor 582n firmware has better ADSL stability than the 8.4 firmware.

Re: Sync speed and IP Profile anomaly?

Interesting and thanks.

The old Netgear is stable enough but wifi throughput is poor at c.60% of the 582.

I might check and see what software the PN is running but it's only 2 years old.

Re: Sync speed and IP Profile anomaly?

I spoke too soon!

Just had an outage.

Reconnected very quickly at similar sync to before: 15.197.

Re: Sync speed and IP Profile anomaly?

OK, PN - please get BT out again!

A nearby property is also having problems with their BT line.

I am now on my third router, a Billion 7800DXL.

It was set up this afternoon and I just had the first outage. Sync speed has dropped so we're on the slippery slope again.

All internal wiring has been checked by private and BT engineers, I have used 3 different routers.

This is definitely a copper line fault - PlusNet, please force BT/OR to repair our line!
