Re: Sync drops when phone rings (subject was "Is this a record?)

Funny how contacting another ISP who says they'll take you on even if you have an existing fault and will give you your money back if they can't fix it within a month knew all about this issue and what could be done to fix the problem! What's more they responded within 15 minutes.
Looks like it's time for some serious thinking! Money isn't the only consideration - it's the response if you have an issue that is just as important!

I presume you've responded to the ticket and stated that <removed> CSC Analyst doesn't know what he's talking about  Roll_eyes
Edit: I expect the ISP you are talking about wants a lot of money for Unlimited, if they do it! I know they don't like OR/BTw

I hadn't noticed that they have introduced a new home package at £25 for 50GB on 20CN, on a 6 month term, then rolling monthly contract, no catches !

Re: Sync drops when phone rings (subject was "Is this a record?)

Perhaps a bit OT now but the gap between upstream and downstream could be a feature of (some) 20CN DSLAMs. In my case on 20CN with TSTC DSLAM attn 30.0dB I had the gap (first attachment). After migration to 21CN with IFTN MSAN attn 30.5dB the gap shrunk (second attachment). Router was TG585v8 at these times, upstream capped in both cases.

Oh yes, I gave quite a 'robust' reply to that ticket!
They don't do unlimited, but as my monthly usage is usually 20-30GB they have a package that would suit me nicely.

Hi Jelv,
Chris Pettitt has been working along with Mark to see about getting a TPM and L+S to a different port, we're just waiting to hear back on this.

Re: Sync drops when phone rings (subject was "Is this a record?)

If the different port is still on a Maconi DSLAM it won't make any difference!
The first question has to be are there any non-Marconi DSLAMs in the exchange - if so you have to insist that the TPM and L+S is on to a non-Marconi port.

I'm not sure you can drawn that conclusion as it could be your current port has gone faulty, not the whole card.

Re: Sync drops when phone rings (subject was "Is this a record?)

I've had a number of TPMs and L+S already.
I've had it confirmed that it is a known fault with Marconi DSLAMs from two different sources.

Ah, you hadn't confirmed they'd already done a "real" shift onto another port!

Re: Sync drops when phone rings (subject was "Is this a record?)

That's completely the point. One way or another we're going to need to get another engineer to the exchange to see what equipment is there exactly. If there is different equipment, then we need to try and get you put onto that.
If the only equipment at the exchange is 'Maconi' I see very little that we can do. I'm not sure what any other ISP can do in that position either.

Re: Sync drops when phone rings (subject was "Is this a record?)

Tell BT to fit a different brand of DSLAM ? especially if 21CN isn't arriving in the next month or two  Huh
For an ISP not to be able to provide a customer with a reliable service because of substandard BT hardware is really not acceptable.

Re: Sync drops when phone rings (subject was "Is this a record?)

Apparently there is no non-Marconi equipment in the exchange - I don't know how hard Plusnet have pushed back at their suppliers to say that this really isn't good enough.
Overnight I've had Max Premium removed from my line and dropped back to standard Max - from a couple of quick tests things are looking a lot better - the connection did not drop with an incoming call. For the second test I had an iPlayer download running - previously that would have caused the connection to drop very quickly when there was an incoming call.
One thing I do need is an SNR reset to put my target noise margin back to 6 (it's currently 9).

I've just completed an SNR Reset for you. I've also added notes to your Fault Ticket to advise Mark of this too.

Re: Sync drops when phone rings (subject was "Is this a record?)

Hi Jelv,
Hopefully moving to MAX may help, I appreciate your frustration with this but our faults team have continually pushed this back in an attempt to resolve this, however it does appear that there will be no new DSLAM fitted at the moment.
