Re: Surely I should get more than 0.93 broadband speed?

Ok,
I have removed all unnecessary wires, and these are now my stats from the gateway, I'd appreciate if someone of you who knows what they are seeing, could comment on whether I can expect more, or should I now be happy?
DSL Connection (5/11/2012 1605hrs)after disconnecting all wires except 2 & 5 wires, from all sockets)

BT Speedtest:
Download speedachieved during the test was - 2.27 Mbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 2 Mbps-7.15 Mbps.
IP Profile for your line is - 5.62 Mbps
I seem to get a steady 2.3Mbps now, but wonder if I should expect more. I am very happy it is no longer stuck at 0.93, but I would appreciate expert opinion before finally settling for this.  Smiley

Now that is an improvement - check this as it is probably limiting you https://portal.plus.net/my.html?action=data_transfer_speed

OLDJIM!!!!!
I just checked again an hour after my 're-wiring' and reconnecting, and it is now 5.26 and current line speed has gone up to 5.6 Yippeee.
I think you, and Anotherone, and jelv and everyone who contributed, not forgetting Matt and Chris of Plusnet, have sorted this out for me, thank you  Smiley

Re: Surely I should get more than 0.93 broadband speed?

In the short term, Plusnet are probably accidentally throttling your connection speed as Oldjim suggests.  Once that issue is resolved, give it a few days to verify that your connection is stable.  If so, consider asking Plusnet to reset your line to see if it can sustain a better noise margin than the current 15dB.  If it can then your download speed should increase further still.

Re: Surely I should get more than 0.93 broadband speed?

OldJim, Reed, that link takes me to my current line speed, which is shown as 5.6.
So are you saying Reed, that if I now leave it for a few days, check it's stable, and if so ask for a reset?
Many thanks again, wahooo!! (sorry, I'm still overjoyed at getting over 5 !)

Re: Surely I should get more than 0.93 broadband speed?

Yes (and sorry I missed that you had posted another response).  The purpose of the reset is to bring your target SNR down to the default value of 6dB.  This should happen spontaneously but might take several months, whereas Plusnet can speed up the process by resetting your line.  If your line is now sufficiently stable and noise-free for the 6dB SNR to hold, then your downstream connection will go yet faster.

OK that's understood, thanks for the explanation, I'll leave it running consistently for a few days and make the request Smiley

Re: Surely I should get more than 0.93 broadband speed?

Hey, that's now looking brilliant. 3 times the sync speed you had compared to your first stats. As Reed has said if your connection remains stable, you could request a reset. You could hopefully expect sync speeds of around 11/12Mbps and throughputs of about 10Mbps. So no resyncs between now and Friday morning, try to avoid Gateway hopping, or post here if you do, and if all is well rrequest the reset early Friday morning and you might be enjoying new speed for the weekend  Smiley

SNR Reset request -

It's Friday pm, my broadband has been up and running consistently all week, could I please ask someone at Plusnet to do the reset for me after my re-wiring of last weekend?
Many thanks for the help  Smiley

Re: Surely I should get more than 0.93 broadband speed?

Well, it's over 24hrs later, and my gateway stats download reads 8.1, more than I've ever seen.
But my actual dowload speed remains at 5.25. Still, that's a vast improvement over 10 days ago, and I am very happy with it.
The missing filter on my Sky box was a big step, but the major improvement came by removing the orange wires form terminal 3.
I want to thank everyone of you who has helped with this, including the plusnet staff, I'm very grateful, and the way the community and staff work together make this a great forum.
Thank you Smiley
