The spam filter at plusnet has been working fine for me for months, except for a few moments ago when my Thunderbird in-box suddenly showed 115 new messages. A few of these were genuine but most were spam that appeared to be undeliverable, returned mail where my username appears to be used to send junk. Anyone else had this today?

I Am glad I am not the only one with this problem.
I just logged on to my outlook to see I had 15 returned emails saying that my emails had been rejected.
I had addresses being used that looked like mine eg:
benkovics@myusername.plus.com
JA697@myusername.plus.com
ANyone got any ideas?

This phenomenon is known as Backscatter as documented at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Backscatter#Backscatter_of_email_spam
Basically, it will subside after a short while, and you just have to put up with it unfortunately.
