Sudden drop in speed

Hi all,
Just over a week ago my broadband speed dropped like a lead balloon. Previously i was achieving the dizzy heights of 3mb, now all it can manage is 512k. I have run the usual diagnostics and even got the guys at plus to run some tests all to no avail. BT have always reported that my line can support 3mb up until i checked with them again last week. Now they report that I can only achieve the 512k that i'm getting.
Can anyone help me?
Thanks in advance if you can

Re: Sudden drop in speed

Heres the info from the bt speedchecker.
Your DSL connection rate: 4544 kbps(DOWN-STREAM),  448 kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP profile for your line is - 2000 kbps
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 298 kbps
Could this be a stuck IP Profile?

Re: Sudden drop in speed

Probably not - it sounds like you had a line problem.
What does this say https://portal.plus.net/my.html?action=data_transfer_speed
Also try this speed test http://www.mybroadbandspeed.co.uk/

Re: Sudden drop in speed

OK
If you raise a ticket enclosing the BT speedtest result than Plusnet should update their system as it clearly hasn't picked up the latest profile update yet.
The question is - what caused the massive speed drop. Did someone plug a phone, Sky box, etc in without a filter

Thunderstorm?  I was working at a house with an old Speedtouch broadband modem during a thunderstorm.  Every time there was a nearby lightning strike, the modem lost sync.

Re: Sudden drop in speed

Can you post the full router stats - it may not show much at this stage but for the synch speed to drop down to about 500kbps something must have gone very badly wrong and a thunderstorm wouldn't normally affect it to that extent.
Also which router are you using.

Re: Sudden drop in speed

Those stats are very good - it may be your default noise margin has been increased to 12dB due to the previous instability.
The bit which does concern me is the IPprofile of  2000kbps which tends to indicate that your speed didn't jump right back up again but went up over a period of time.
All you can do at this stage is check your synch speeds and noise margin at intervals over the evening.
You could try downloading DMT v 8.07 which should work with your router and use that to log the noise margin http://dmt.mhilfe.de/
This will give a lot more information about what is happening

Re: Sudden drop in speed

Hi Shutty,
I've just updated your profile.
If you reboot your router you should see an improvement in speed.
