Student compatible FTTC contracts

Son is moving into a rented house for second year at York.
Needless to say any contract longer than 1 year is not suitable for students - but all FTTC contracts seem to be a minimum of 18 months.
Does plusnet have a solution to this? If not, does anyone know an ISP that does?

Thanks.

Might be worth seeing if PN do the same. I am pretty sure the FTTC contract between Plusnet and BT Wholesale is for a minimum of 12 months.

Re: Student compatible FTTC contracts

As far as I know they don't
However this is the alternative
Quote
Fibre broadband 18-month contract: The Plusnet Fibre service is subject to a minimum period of 18 months. If you choose to end your Plusnet Fibre service within the minimum period, you will have to pay a termination charge by way of compensation to us for ending your service early. This charge will be calculated by multiplying the number of months remaining in your minimum term by a monthly early termination charge, as set out in the Price guide .
which takes you to
Quote
Broadband & Phone £6.30
So the cost for 9 months would be £9.99 x 6 + £19.99 x3 + £30 (cease charge) + £40 (router) + £15.95 x 9 (phone charge) + £6.30 x 9 (cancellation charge) +£5.99 (router delivery)
I have no idea how that compares - also I may have got the numbers a bit wrong

Re: Student compatible FTTC contracts

Thanks - had considered paying the cancellation - but that makes it very expensive compared with standard ADSL on 12 month contract.

Re: Student compatible FTTC contracts

Surely he can make do with ADSL which will be pretty fast in York unlike in the sticks where I reside. Wink

Re: Student compatible FTTC contracts

Yes he can (and is planning to)
However if plusnet can offer a 12 month contract for fttc he (and his mates) would be happy to pay them the extra monthly fee.

Re: Student compatible FTTC contracts

You can get 12Month contracts from Plusnet on the Business FTTC so it's techincally possible for them to do but not sure if they're willing to do it on the residential side.

Re: Student compatible FTTC contracts

It defaults to 24Months but it does actually give you the option to take a 12Month contact during the order process (All be it at an increased Monthly cost)
Compared to the residential broadband it's quite expensive however.

Re: Student compatible FTTC contracts

At present, the shortest contract length we offer for FTTC is 18 months, this is due to the amount it costs us to provide the service.
I'll pass on your feedback though. you're right though, on the Business side of things, there is the option of taking FTTC on a 12 month contract.
