Re: Stuck on 40/10

So I've just had another look at my router stats and they have changed a bit more.
My data rate is now 7.964/58.497
Maximum data rate is shown as 7.964/59.695
Noise margin 6.0/2.9

My speed test is still 49-50mbps, as the data rate and maximum data rate is at approximately 59 mpbs should I expect a further increase in my real world speed test results?
I appreciate as the downstream noise margin is 2.9 my data rate speed is unlikely to increase on my router stats

@JHarland

It’s unlikely that there will be further significant improvement. Your download data rate is now within limits. There is no guaranteed minimum for upload speed.

If you no longer need them you could now try removing all the extension connections then refitting the faceplate. Otherwise fit a filtered faceplate ensuring that the extensions are connected to the filtered output.

Re: Stuck on 40/10

I'm not so keen on trying to remove the extension cables myself in case I mess it up, is there a type of face plate I can replace the openreach MK4 lower bit with that acts like a microfilter in the test socket without having to actually disconnect the wires?

Re: Stuck on 40/10

What is your concern?

If there is no requirement for the extensions, just disconnect it / them from the back of the faceplate … or leave the face plate off and connect direct to the test socket.

Re: Stuck on 40/10

At the minute I have the microfilter straight to the test socket which is fine and I'm happy to leave it like that, just doesn't look as tidy. I'm right in thinking that to take the extension wires out I have to remove the back plate? Just a bit concerned I'll cut the wrong wire and have no broadband at all!

Re: Stuck on 40/10

Are the extension wires some of these wires....?

Re: Stuck on 40/10

Where are they?  Looks like the location of a disconnected extension socket, not the master socket.

Where is the master socket with the inbound pair?

That picture is behind the master socket. I unscrewed the screws in the attached photo

Re: Stuck on 40/10

OK it was not clear free m the first picture that there is any thing connected to the cables.  Closer inspection seems to show that a pair comes out of the left cable down the bottom of the hole.

i conclude that there are no attached extensions

Re: Stuck on 40/10

I thought it was likely that my speed increase and improved router stats came from removing the influence of extension cables by plugging into the test socket. As I don't have any extension cables what is the likely cause for the improvement? New rj11 cable or the microfilter I'm using is better than the openreach faceplate....?

Re: Stuck on 40/10

Could be either of those … or the contacts on the NTE5c face plate are notorious for becoming tarnished.

Re: Stuck on 40/10

These clip om faceplates are known to be less reliable than the old type. As well as oxidation of contact surfaces, if screwed back hard on to a wall that is not dead flat, causing the back box to distort. This stops the faceplate seating correctly.

Re: Stuck on 40/10

@JHarland  Your latest router stats show that DLM has reduced the target  downstream SNR margin to 3 dB resulting in a slightly higher sync speed. Nothing to do with the rj11 cable or micro filter.

@RealAleMadrid

I beg to differ, if a poor connection is introducing errors it will cause the SNR to increase and/or increased retransmission requests.

Re: Stuck on 40/10

It's a long thread so you possibly hadn't seen it but when I swapped the rj11 cable and took off the face plate my router stats went from

noise margin 5.9/4.2 to noise margin 6.0/4.1

but I got an immediate 5mbps uplift in speed, I didn't have to wait for DLM to do anything so the speed boost has to be related to one of those factors.
I checked back 24hrs later and DLM has further reduced my noise margin to 2.9 but this didn't result in any further increase in speed
