Still very low sync speed after fifteen days connected to ADSL2+

Please can anybody give me any advice?
I have a sync speed that appears to be stuck at a very low setting
Downstream Sync is 572kbps
Upstream                    444kbps
Throughput                312kbps
This was reported by BT test 16/5/09
SNR down stream      23.3 db
SNR up stream            24db
(1)  I have tried three different routers
(2)  new BT Iplate
(3) new filter
(4) disconnected all internal wiring
(5) waited 15 days after connection to ADSL2+ to allow time to sync up properly
(6) tried resyncing once a day for the last five days, still locked at the same setting of 572kbps
my old ADSL connection was:-
sync speed down stream 4950kbps
sync speed  up stream    445kbs
throughput                          4000kbs

I see from other postings that  there seems to be a problem with the sync speed at first,
but how long do I have to wait to get anything like the speed I had before I signed up for
this trial?

Hi
See is your first post - welcome.
I'm having the same problem abit not that low a sync - been 30 days now - on 21CN be speed is 60% slower them the old serivce - progress?!  Tongue

Re: Still very low sync speed after fifteen days connected to ADSL2+

@phoenix67 Could you please post your full router stats (attenuations as well as sync speeds and SNR margins down and up) and if possible the mode shown by your router to give a more complete picture. The IP Profile shown in the BT Performance Test and Current line speed in the Member Centre are also useful.
However I assume your downstream attenuation is around 50 dB and though you might see little improvement in download speed from before, you should have seen those sorts of speeds immediately. Syncing at only 572kbps definitely indicates a fault. Connecting to the test socket is not listed in the list of things you've tried - have you done that?
If that gives the same results I suggest you raise a slow speed fault at http://faults.plus.net/. Mention you are on 21CN.

Hi David.
Thank's for the input.I have connected to the test socket, no change as you will see in router stats.
I have now changed to another router BT Voyager 2110 and the sync has dropped even further.
Here are the BT TEST RESULTS :-

upstream          444kbps
throughput        299kbps

I hope this will help
I have now raised a slow speed fault as suggested by you.
Many thanks.

Something is horribly wrong there, it should be around 10 times that speed, and those noise margins are ridiculous.  Shocked
You'll obviously need PN's help to investigate so raising a ticket is the right thing to do.

Line Mode ADSL2   Line State Show Time

Line mode has dropped down to ADSL2 (rather than ADSL2+) which is not surprising since with those huge noise margins the higher frequencies on the latter will contribute nothing.
As HP said raising a fault is the right thing to do and I hope the faults team quickly get the problem sorted out for you. Please keep us posted with progress.

Re: Still very low sync speed after fifteen days connected to ADSL2+

Hi David.
I have just had a reply from P/N faults, and they have asked me to plug into the engineers test socket
I had already done this, but it will  make very little difference if any as there is no internal wiring
connected. I am connected to the drop wire and the outside DP on the pole only.
As an ex. BT engineer I can only conclude that the fault is external or an exchange problem.
This seems to me to be the case as before joining the trial everything was running ok

Re: Still very low sync speed after fifteen days connected to ADSL2+

Mike,
I've asked our faults team to raise this as an LTB (Lower Threshold Breach) fault with your former employers as your line sync speed is considerably beneath the Fault Threshold Rate.

Re: Still very low sync speed after fifteen days connected to ADSL2+

Hi James.
I have just checked the sync speed and we now have lift off, router has synced at over 4000kbps
Not that fast as yet but a great improvement over the last three weeks. I hope it will improve
over the next few weeks and not drop down again.
Here is the router readout at the moment.
Line Mode ADSL2   Line State Show Time
Latency Type Interleave    Line Up Time 00:11:03:40
Line Coding Trellis On   Line Up Count 8
Line Power State L0

Statistics Downstream Upstream
Line Rate 4193 Kbps 440 Kbps
Noise Margin 12.1 dB 22.3 dB
Line Attenuation 47.0 dB 25.6 dB
Output Power 0.0 dBm 12.5 dBm
MSGC (number in overhead channel data) 61 12
B (number of bytes in Mux Frame) 126 55
M (number of Mux Frames in FEC Frame) 1 1
T (Mux Frames over sync bytes) 1 1
R (number of check bytes in FEC Frame) 10 8
S (ratio of FEC over PMD Frame length) 0.9614 4.0000
L (number of bits in PMD Frame) 1140 128
D (interleaver depth) 32 8

HEC Errors 55  0
OCD Errors 1  0
LCD Errors 0  0

Thanks to Plusnet and yourself for moving quickly after I reported a fault.
Also to David's input and suggestions and others with helpful comments on this post.
We will now see how things go.
Kind Regards
Mike

Re: Still very low sync speed after fifteen days connected to ADSL2+

That looks better. The experience of others suggests leaving the DLM/MSAN to their own devices is best now, and in time (might be as long as a couple of weeks) the target Noise Margins (both downstream and upstream) should reduce. However don't be surprised if these values go up first (the logic for this escapes us).
If the target Noise Margin is changed an automatic re-sync should be forced so there is no need to keep re-syncing in hope - in fact doing so might hamper progress.
