Static IP

I was about to request a static IP address for which I understand there is a £5 one off charge but was worried that this might initiate a new 12 month contract.  Can someone put my mind at rest please?

Re: Static IP

Hi there.
Nope it doesn't affect your contract in any way at all.

Re: Static IP

Once you've gone to fixed IP you'll find that your reverse DNS gives your Plusnet username - you'll likely want that changed - see https://www.plus.net/wizard/?p=wizard&page=22425&wizard_id=38

Re: Static IP

Also, if you change 'contract' (e.g. to fibre), you'll still keep the static IP with no further charge.

Thanks guys.  Good point about the reverse DNS.

Re: Static IP

That was easy - all done.
The reverse DNS checker doesn't return anything resembling my user name or any of the other options though.  It gives a result ending in .pndsl.co.uk.  Perhaps the default is different now?

Re: Static IP

I suspect it will be only once every few hours that the DNS changes are processed and then they will take time to propagate - check tomorrow morning.

Re: Static IP

As Jelv has said I'd imagine it will change once the records have propagated.
I think Chris can update these and he's in tomorrow so I'll drop him a message.

Re: Static IP

Unfortunately at the moment I can't do this! I can see you've created a ticket requesting it, so we'll get that picked up asap.
