Speedtouch 585v7 firmware from Plusnet

Saw this over at TBB http://bbs.adslguide.org.uk/showthreaded.php?Cat=&Board=plusnet&Number=3483994

I believe PN now has its own firmware on routers it supplies.
How will this be different to the standard firmware?
Can this be clarified

I've answered some of the points raised on the Thinkbroadband forum.

Re: Speedtouch 585v7 firmware from Plusnet

I don't believe that the fully Plusnet branded version of the firmware is being distributed yet?   Some of PUG have been trialling the early versions and made a few suggestions for change.   Back at the last Open Day, Ian (Wild) and Neil (Armstrong) described some of the benefits of a (fairly) new protocol TR69 which will enable Plusnet to better manage the initial set up for new users and also to assist in remote fault diagnostics.  Nothing committed or released yet as development and testing is still at a very early stage, but expect some news on this early next year  Cheesy

Superusers are not staff, but they do have a direct line of communication into the business in order to raise issues, concerns and feedback from the community.

More information is also given in the blog Plusnet selects Thomson to provide next generation of Broadband Routers .

What’s really exciting about this move is that the new kit will support TR-069, and will feature a special Plusnet firmware version that will be optimised specifically for our broadband service.  Once we’ve finished the development work (probably early next year), we will be able to help configure a router for our customers as soon as they connect it to their telephone line. This means that they won’t need to give us a ring to check their username or to confirm some of the settings as we will be able to set it for them (optionally).  It’ll also give us the ability to run some more advanced diagnostics, should they see a fault on their line.

Re: Speedtouch 585v7 firmware from Plusnet

We havent started to ship PN firmware yet to customers.
As mentioned by the PUG members, we are in the early stages of trials of TR069 as mentioned in our Plans for 2008 and the Thomson article above.

Re: Speedtouch 585v7 firmware from Plusnet

If this router is for new customers  I take it  it will be locked to plusnet ?
If the router has voip built-in like the speedtouch 716wl v5 will you be able to pick (for line 2) any voip company or will this be locked down to?
It may be acceptable if the routers free but if chargeable its certainly not

Re: Speedtouch 585v7 firmware from Plusnet

Hi guys,
We're currently not sending out routers with our own batch of firmware.  This is likely to be in the next batch and we have Thomson in today to discuss this amongst other things.
Our firmware would not be locked to Plusnet customers and we are currently investigating a TR-069 solution, which will allow customers to have their routers configured for them as soon as their line sync up.
Puddy - It will still be a Thomson 585v7 as our new customers are currently receiving.  It'll just be a change in firmaware, not tohe model of router itself.
