Speedtouch 585 v7 as supplied by Plusnet - password

Just seen the service status about connection problems and the solution which included this statement
Quote
If prompted, enter the username and password for the router, by default these will be
username: Administrator
password: the serial number of the router (this is printed underneath)
Is this peculiar to the Plusnet supplied units as the usual login for a Speedtouch is username Administrator and password blank.
The only time the number was used on the 585 v6 was for setting up the wpa-psk security

The password information in the Service Status is certainly correct for PN supplied 585v7 units.
The wireless keys are strings of hexadecimal characters which are not the same as the serial number.

Re: Speedtouch 585 v7 as supplied by Plusnet - password

Can't say what the default was on mine as I changed it during the setup when prompted! (It didn't ask for the old password)
Are PN now supplying routers with their branded firmware?

Morning,
We've been sending out Thomson TG585v7 Router with Plusnet branded firmware for about a week now.

Does this mean that the Firmware is "Locked" in any way? Can it be flashed back to the native Thomson Firmware?

Hiya,
There shouldn't be anything to prevent you from flashing it to a different version of firmware.
Our firmware is TR-069 enabled for our systems (once they're up and running) and there's a Plusnet logo in the web console.

The 585v7 regardless of whether or not it is our firmware version, does not support DMT.

Bring back this issue. Why did PN decide to use their own firmware and what's the advantage of this over the Thomson firmware?

Re: Speedtouch 585 v7 as supplied by Plusnet - password

Once we have our TR-069 platform built, we'll be able to remotely configure these routers using our firmware.
It's a pretty good reason Smiley
Why did you want the Thomson firmware specifically?

Re: Speedtouch 585 v7 as supplied by Plusnet - password

TR-069 and the logo are the benefits of the PN firmware.
The benefit of TR-069 is that it enables your ISP to see certain info from your router, as well as providing the capability for troubleshooting.
Its not something they have in use yet, but its something that they are working on - it will provide potential for easier resolution of some types of problems, as well as allowing things like router setup to be automated.
The logo doesn't provide much as a tangible benefit, it just looks nice. Smiley

Not so sure I'd be happy knowing that my router could be accessed & changed remotely.
What steps have/are you taking to ensure this can/would only be done with the customer's knowledge and agreement?
Can remote access be turned off via the control panel?
Regards.

Is it the Remote assistance ? -
in which case it can be password protected, and disabled by the user.

"Remote Assistance
Remote assistance is currently disabled.
By clicking on the 'Enable Remote Assistance' button your Thomson Gateway will be accessible from your broadband connection. After 20 minutes of inactivity, or on reboot, remote assistance will be automatically disabled.
Provide the following parameters to your ISP:

Mode: Permanent Mode
Temporary Mode

Hiya,
Part of the TR-069 project specification (ours) from the development side of things, is to add a button on the portal that allows you to turn this off.
It's also possible to do it via the CLI (Command Line Interface).
