Speeds and ping vary wildly, high jitter

Over the last few months the speeds and ping have been bouncing about all over the show... With speed tests showing a jitter of 250+ (pc is connected direct to router)
Is there anything to be done here?

A little bit more information would be a great help? Which product are you on, what self-help steps have you taken, have you any records you can share?
Other Community members will try to assist, but we do need a little more concrete data to go on.

Records, no. the connection has never been great for either speed or ping.
But the wildly variable ping (18-1000+)is becoming very tiresome.
I'll do some more tests and post up the results.

Hiya @Syne209, thank you for getting in touch. I am really sorry for the issues with your service.
I have tested the connection and this hasn't highlighted any faults however, one of your line settings (SNR margin) is set lower than we usually prefer which could potentially be causing the issues you are seeing. I have now placed an order to amend this and would advise to monitor.
Should the issue persist, I would advise to have a run through our troubleshooting here: https://www.plus.net/help/broadband/connection-troubleshooting/. Should this not the resolve the issue, you can log a fault for further investigation here: https://faults.plus.net

Snr? Signal noise ratio?
I'll work my way through the linked suggestions and report back.
Ironically, - on the day I finally pipe up and have a moan- last night was one of the most stable nights for months, the ping spiked only a few times.

Thanks for getting back to me @Syne209. Yes you're right I'm referring to the signal to noise ratio, it was set at 3dB so I've increased it to 6dB.
I'm pleased it was stable last night and hopefully is the same today!
