Speed slower than expected

I know I'm new and have only just had fibre installed but reading the info it says a slight variation in speeds over the first 10 days; the trouble is i'm getting the same speeds as I was on normal broadband, this surely can't be right? When signing up it was estimated to be around 14Mbps yet i'm only seeing 5. Can someone confirm this is correct and it will go up or have I wasted my money by signng up to a service that is no better than the previous cheaper package?
Tanks for any assitance.  Smiley

Re: Speed slower than expected

Hi dantro,
I've just updated your Speed Profile, can you please restart your router (not Openreach Modem) and see if there's an improvement at all?

Re: Speed slower than expected

are the speed tests wired or wireless
Can you run the BT speedtest http://speedtest.btwholesale.com/
If further diagnostics work can you report that as well

Re: Speed slower than expected

Basically you need to raise a fault at https://faults.plus.net as something is seriously wrong
As a side issue - if you dial 17070 option 2 is the line quiet
If it isn't and there is serious crackling etc, then I would start by raising a phone fault here https://www.plus.net/wizard/?p=wizard&page=22965&wizard_id=38

To be fair, you have one problem only - BTOR / BT Wholesale systems are not working at / reporting the correct FTTC speeds.  This could be a fault with your local copper (or aluminium) pair or the BT management systems.
It would have been interesting to have seen your ADSL stats prior to migrating to FTTC - I do wonder if they were impaired by a marginal d-side circuit, which is similarly impacting your FTTC service.

Superusers are not staff, but they do have a direct line of communication into the business in order to raise issues, concerns and feedback from the community.

Re: Speed slower than expected

@townman
Look at the upload speed test result which is horrible even for ADSL
That is nothing to do with BT Openreach systems

Just as a slightly amusing side note, the pic below is from my mobile phones connection.

Re: Speed slower than expected

I adjusted your speed profile just above your line estimates, purely because our suppliers systems are down over the weekend for maintenance so I wasn't able to see what speeds you're connecting at.
You've either got a line fault or FTTC isn't showing too much of an improvement. FTTC wasn't intended for the longer lines. Our Faults Team will be back in touch anyhow.
Results from mobile phones/tablets aren't accurate unfortunately.
