Speed slowed down

Linksys WAG54G2 stats for my line are:
--- DSL Information ---
DSL Driver Version:  E.25.41.39
DSL VPI/VCI:        0/38
DSL Status:          Showtime
DSL Mode:            G.Dmt
DSL Channel:        64
DSL Upstream Rate:  448000
DSL Downstream Rate: 3360000
                      Down        up
DSL Noise Margin:    29.0 dB      53.0 dB
DSL Attenuation:      22 dB      15.5 dB
DSL Transmit Power:  17.7 dBm    11.9 dBm
PN`s own speed tests have given these results;
Today 10:43 140 kbps (17.5kB/s) 377 kbps (47.1kB/s)
Yesterday 22:53 140 kbps (17.5kB/s) 374 kbps (46.8kB/s)
Yesterday 22:35 140 kbps (17.5kB/s) 367 kbps (45.9kB/s)
Yesterday 22:23 162 kbps (20.3kB/s) 378 kbps (47.3kB/s)
Thursday 15:46 1295 kbps (162kB/s) 323 kbps (40.4kB/s)
Have just gone wireless changing from a usb modem to a router. Speeds were ok but recent speeds have dropped below what my old speed touch330 was giving me. I have recently streamed programmes from BBC and thought PN might have imposed some limit on the line but my usage is only 10GB for this month and I have up to 15GB. System can only cope now with emails and surfing to web pages , streaming anything is impossible since Thursday.
Any ideas what I need to do to get an acceptable speed.

Re: Speed slowed down

Try running the BT speedtest http://www.speedtester.bt.com/ to see what BT think your profile is, also log into the member centre and see what profile (line rate) PN have got https://portal.plus.net/my.html?action=data_transfer_speed.
With regard to the stats posted above, the primary figures of interest are the DSL Upstream & Downstream Rates. Noise Margin, Attenuation & Transmit Power. Other than the Rates, the later figures seem to be reported back to front etc., however looking at that, your sync speed (downstream rate) is not bad considering you may have a Target Noise margin of 15dB and reported attenuation of 53dB.

Re: Speed slowed down

Hi
BT`s test gives these results:
Your DSL connection rate: 3616 kbps(DOWN-STREAM),  448 kbps(UP-STREAM)
    IP profile for your line is - 135 kbps
    Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 83 kbps
While PN say line speed is ;
Estimated line speed:
Not recorded (service activated before we introduced estimates).
Current line speed:
250

Re: Speed slowed down

whith a atten of 22db you should be syncing better than. Your DSL connection rate: 3616 kbps(DOWN-STREAM).
can you try pluging striaght in to the test socket and see what sync you get then.
power down your router before unpluging cables.

its these set of stats that we want to see the diffrence in when connected to the test socket.
DSL Upstream Rate:   448000
DSL Downstream Rate: 3360000
                      Down         up
DSL Noise Margin:    29.0 dB      53.0 dB
DSL Attenuation:       22 dB      15.5 dB
DSL Transmit Power:  17.7 dBm     11.9 dBm
Quote
reported attenuation of 53dB.

@Anotherone
should of gone to spec savers Grin

Re: Speed slowed down

No ASBO, the figures as quoted don't make sense, as I said they're all @rse about face.

Re: Speed slowed down

There's been a low sync event for the BT profile to be 135. Have you changed your installation in any way apart from the modem/router? or accidentally plugged something in without a filter?
Do you have extension sockets and fixed wiring? if so, how many, please describe outline of wiring and what's plugged in where.

Re: Speed slowed down

Problem has been resolved .Problem was that DLM was kicking in as I have been setting up a new router I switched it on/off numerous times (due to my limited skills). It seems that BT`s DLM kicked in trying to stabilise the system, a side effect is a poor speed. However, once the router was left connected over night with no disconnections, my normal speed returned.
Many thanks guys for help.
