Hi all when I first joined my speeds were constantly 2.8mb now they are now down to 2.2mb.I know these speeds are not just one offs as I do broadband speed survey for ofgem and the equipment measurest he speed before it reaches my hardware and does it 24/7.Can anybody explain why the speeds are slowing down?
TIA:)
P.S Im not posting from my home PC atm Smiley

Re: Speed slowed down

If you can post the stats from your router we would have a better idea.
If you don't know how to get them - this will explain http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/frogstats.php

Re: Speed slowed down

Those speeds are quite remarkable given the high attenuation - you must have a very good line.
Rather than messing about with the BT speedtest what does this say for your current line speed https://portal.plus.net/my.html?action=data_transfer_speed

Re: Speed slowed down

sync speed looks right for a 58db atten line.
the problem you have is when you sync(turn router on ) the sync speed it will get varies at diffrent times of the day and the thing that is holding you speed test speeds down to 2.3mb is your profile being at 2500kbps
check your profile here https://portal.plus.net/my.html?action=data_transfer_speed (need to be logged into PN member centre)  and here http://www.speedtester.bt.com/ login for bt test is (yourPNusername@plusdsl.net)  with out the ))))
you need to stay synced above 3442kbps for over 3days with no drop below this sync speed to get a profile of 3000. if your sync drops below 3442 then your profile will drop to 2500.
edit. stop walking so fast oldjim  Grin Grin

Re: Speed slowed down

My line has a maximum stable sync speed of about 3800kbps (noise margin varies between 5.8 - 8 dB) with an attenuation of 52 dB which is significantly lower than the OP hence my comment

Re: Speed slowed down

yep i agree with you the op has a tip top long line wish my now adsl2 50db atten line would run at 6db snr in fact its now 15db.
on adsl it was 52db at 12db snr.
stable at 3500-3700 on fast path. max ive synced my line at was 4200kbps but not a chance of holding on to that.

Re: Speed slowed down

Thanks all,I'll not try and get a faster speed as stablity is more important to me
Was curious as to why the drop so thanks for educating me,how often does the system do a test ?

Re: Speed slowed down

Hi,
I only joined Plusnet the 26 March so about 17 days,my speed has been a constant 6mb from the first day,for me it's the best service ever for the price. Upto then we lived in Spain for 16 years, had to use Telefonica, their cost was 60 euros/month(£55) and that was for a speed of 1mb which eventually was increased to 1.5mb,but so was the price, with line rental it's now almost 80 euros/month.
