Re: Speed problems

Thanks Matt, I haven't tried it in the master socket since the external wire repairs. I'll give it a go and see how it shapes up, if there's no difference then I will see about raising a fault.

Re: Speed problems

Thanks - though (and sorry if you were aware of this already) I meant the test socket, behind the master socket front plate?

Re: Speed problems

Yes it's okay I've done that before, I'm going to try straight away.

Re: Speed problems

Hi Matt, I've connected to the test socket and these are the figures.

System Up Time 02:34:21
Port Status TxPkts RxPkts Collisions Tx B/s Rx B/s Up Time
WAN ADSL Link 262211 301530 0 2368 44949 02:33:03
LAN1 Link Down 314073 285292 0 45903 2796 --
LAN2 Link Down --
LAN3 Link Down --
LAN4 Link Down --
WLAN 145M 86284 61047 0 9883 1482 02:34:20
ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 6653 kbps 888 kbps
Line Attenuation 35.0 db 19.3 db
Noise Margin 6.1 db 14.0 db
The noise margin has gone back to 6.1. The connection speed ages ago used to be 11500 but I haven't seen this since.
What would you advise at this stage.

Re: Speed problems

Hmm, stats look about the same but the lowered SNR margin is a good thing. Would you be willing to leave it plugged in like that to see if that prevents the drops? If it does we'll be able to do that reset for you, though it'd also mean there's something going on with the faceplate (it'd have to be the faceplate given that you've no extension sockets) so might be worth getting an ADSLNation one or possibly an i-plate as well.

Re: Speed problems

Matt, yes we can leave it in the test socket ,it's on a normal filter at present. How long should we leave it like this.
The faceplate worked fine and nothing seem to change when fitted, it's a BT ADSL V1.0.  If we can get things back to where they were then I can look to get the ones you mentioned later. Thanks

Re: Speed problems

@rovingeyeuk from the stats you supplied  your downstream attenuation is 35db if this figure is correct you should be able to get sync speeds above 10mbps  upto say 15mbps why you aren't and never had sync speeds as fast, points to a poor quality line,or some other fault BT's side of things like exchange equipment

Re: Speed problems

@deathtrap. Thanks for confirming that.
I have had speeds of 9/10 but that was immediately after the BT wiring repairs but it didn't take too long to drop. Seems it's stuck at 5/6 or less at the moment, I'll run it and see if there are any more disconnects over the next few days then see what can be done
There was a period before where the speed always dropped to 3mb and stuck there for days but a reboot fixed it for a short while. As above now it's 5/6 which whilst not as bad as some as you say should be higher.

Re: Speed problems

Please could these latest stats be checked. I have removed the BT ADSL faceplate and fitted a new phone cable, the router has been connected to the test socket for a couple of days and the figures have changed quite a bit.  The connection speed has risen to 11566 which is where it used to be and the BT speed check gives 5.53 down with a IP profile of 10.2Mb which is the same as it was previously.  Does my Plusnet profile need raising to match this?  Thanks.

Re: Speed problems

I'm sure you have looked at this and reset the profile earlier this morning. The speed has jumped back to 9.5mb on the ipad over wifi on a very good connection. Comparing to my PC or laptop connected directly then this is virtually 10mb. Thanks.
Whatever the problem but probably a few things including the initial faulty external wiring I shall bin the BT ADSL faceplate and fit a ADSL Nation one and hopefully can now have a more settled connection.
