Hi all,
My broadband speed is really slow at the moment, I did a speed test at www.mybroadbandspeed.co.uk and the results were these
It has just started to happen and when I try to download from different servers like Megaupload the speeds were below 50Kb/sec and I was just wondering if you were doing maintenance on my line or throttling my speeds
[EDIT]
I just downloaded a file from a microsoft server and the speeds were perfectly fine its just some web page downloads are slow

Downloading from sites such as megaupload, rapidshare etc. is best done at offpeak times,
Downloads from sites like these are not deemed critical (wheres gaming, voip and web browsing are) so they get priority on the network,
http://kitz.co.uk/isp/plusnet_shaping.htm - Going to this site then selecting the product should explain what speeds to expect at certain times of the day.
(Link also gives list of sites which are classed as download sites/servers)
Cheers
Edit: just an afterthought, it isnt just PN who do this.. You'll find alot of file hosting services do it to - makes you pay for the service to get "full" line speed... however its probably not worth it with PN shaping also.

Hi there,
We've got your speed fault ticket but before we can investigate it we need some BT speed test results appended please - you can get them at http://www.speedtester.bt.com (though you may need to change your username in the router in order to get some results). As soon as those are attached to the ticket we'll get some tests done and progress the fault for you.

I've dropped from my usual 3 bars to 2 the last few days on COD WAW on my xbox. I would just put it down to contention, but it was between 11pm and 2am.

Mines the same tonight. Do tracerts to bbc.co.uk and plus.net, and see spikes up to 120ms at random hops each time I do as tracert.
One hop that can get 50ms one time, gets upto 120 the next time.

The traces aren't 'too' bad, but I think i'll restart my router and see if browsing is any better.

seems anything at anyone would use during the evening is running like a three legged dog. Hotmail, MSN, Facebook, Amazon.co.uk, Ebay.co.uk seems to take a good 10 second to fully load.
If I tracert to hotmail, and amazon, and ebay, they seem to stumble at the same place, ip4.tinet.net
