Speed issues and strange speedtest results..

Had a problem. PN reset my profile, during training my Archer D5 reported SNRM of 2.14billion (?).  Binned the router. Now on a Billion (router).  Line is stable. but speeds are much lower than they were before.  Checked the btw test for my profile and many times got similar results. I'm on ADSL Max, these can't be right!  I must have run the test a hundred times over two months and it always gives the error message.

 1. Best Effort Test:
Download Speed : 14.84 Mbps

2. Upstream Test:
Upload Speed : 0.53 Mbps

Your speed test has completed and the results are shown above, however during the test an error occurred while trying to retrieve additional details regarding your service. As a result we are unable to determine if the speed you received during the test is acceptable for your service. Please re-run the test if you require this additional information.

Agreed, that's really odd and considerably above the capabilities of ADSL Max, do you see the same on any other speed test sites?

Re: Speed issues and strange speedtest results..

No. Other speed tests are consistent with router stats IE download at 3.6 to 3.8 Mbps.  I am certainly not getting that speed.  I also notice that if I reboot my router I sync at exactly the same rate each time 4543Mb even if I lower the the SNRM on my Billion router.

You're not on Max, @melindwr.

I guess your 20CN exchange was upgraded recently and your line was silently reprovisioned. Openreach has an ongoing programme of upgrading the vast majority of rural exchanges to 21CN (mine was done last year, which is why I've returned to Plusnet from the LLU world).

Re: Speed issues and strange speedtest results..

It's also worth bearing in mind the BT speedtest is broken in some browsers.

Re: Speed issues and strange speedtest results..

Thanks for the responses guys.

If I the exchange has been upgraded, I need to force G.dmt as my sync has fallen by 2 Mbs!  I believe I am still on ADSL Max as a neighbour has had an engineer out who told him we are on IPstream.  I think the Billion router selects the appropriate  modulation if ADSL 2+ is specified and doesn't report the actual modulation used.  I definitely think the btw speedtest is at fault here.

I am more concerned with the error "Your speed test has completed and the results are shown above, however during the test an error occurred while trying to retrieve additional details regarding your service. As a result we are unable to determine if the speed you received during the test is acceptable for your service. Please re-run the test if you require this additional information." as I cannot register the results.

Problem is my speed is too high for plusnet to regard it as a fault but much lower than I was getting before..

Re: Speed issues and strange speedtest results..

You are definitely on ADSL2+, and your speed has clearly been banded by the DLM. Plusnet could reset it (again) to remove the banding, although the DLM would likely band it again if whatever caused the banding in the first place is still present.

Re: Speed issues and strange speedtest results..

Thanks ejs.  I guess I'll have to take you word for it.  Both Samknows and Plusnet Exchange status tell me the exchange is not 21CN enabled.  However it looks like my router resynced @6.6Mbs last night Smiley

Re: Speed issues and strange speedtest results..

Then both those websites are out of date.

Check https://www.btwholesale.com/includes/adsl/adsl.htm

Re: Speed issues and strange speedtest results..

No worries. The eponymous Sam seems to have stopped knowing things several years ago. The site still talks about Market 1/2, for pity's sake.
