Speed is low - downstream attenuation figure implies I can go faster....

Hello PN admins,
The 33db attenuation on my downstream implies I should be able to get ~7.5Mbits (at least according to http://www.speedguide.net/dsl_speed_calc.php). I know that would be in an ideal world, but I'm only getting ~4.5Mbits. Any chance you can improve things for me? My full stats are:
Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 832 / 4.416
Data Transferred (Sent/Received) [GB/GB]: 1,99 / 1,70
Output Power (Up/Down) [dBm]: 12,3 / 19,9
Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]: 21,5 / 33,0
SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]: 14,0 / 16,4
Thanks,
Froug

Hi Froug,
Looking at the margins there (especially the current SNR) there's definitely some room for improvement. My only reservation is with your other issue, the packet loss when the profiles aren't set correctly - we could certainly go ahead with an SNR reset and let the line retrain, but I wonder what impact it'd have on the packet loss issue.

Thanks Matt, but I thought my latency issues were to do with traffic shaping, not packet loss?

You might well be able to improve things for yourself if you are prepared to be proactive.  The first thing to do is to connect your router to the Test Socket, which is the socket revealed if you unscrew and pull-out the faceplae from your Master Socket.  Then look again at the router stats.  If anything has changed then there might be an opportunity to improve your speed yourself.  Post back.

Understood, but I wanted to make sure you were happy to go ahead with this given those issues before I placed the order. If you are, I'll get it done Smiley

Re: Speed is low - downstream attenuation figure implies I can go faster....

Thanks Matt - I do wish to proceed, but one clarification before we start.....will the SNR reset (and subsequent retraining) cause the (for want of a better word) 'standard' profile to reinstate, and I'll have to ask for the 'speed' profile to be reapplied?

I've placed the SNR reset and I'll keep my eye on this and match your speed profile once the SNR reset has completed.

Thanks very much Chris - great service from PN, as always.
