Speed drop after power cuts - SNR reset required?

Ever since I've had an ADSL2+ connection my line has synced at over 18Mbps and been very reliable.
However, we had several power cuts during the Christmas week and since then the sync speed has dropped to just over 16Mbps. It's a very reliable 16Mbps but it would be nice to get back to 18 again.
I realise that the frequent line drops caused by the power cuts may have made my connection appear unstable and that my IP Profile may well have been reduced as a result. But I was under the impression that once the line had proved itself stable again (and it had been synced at 16Mbps for over 500 hours) the IP Profile would increase again. So I rebooted the modem only to find that the speed remains at 16Mbps.
Looking at this forum, I see that others have had similar issues and the reason given for the problem is that a banded profile may have been applied and a SNR reset is required. I ran the BT Wholesale speed test and diagnostics which showed that my IP Profile is 14.31Mbps. Do I need a SNR reset and if so, how do I get it done?

At a guess your default noise margin has increased from 3dB to 6dB
The automatic systems should eventually sort it but to do it quicker it would need the noise margin adjusted to 3dB but Plusnet would only do it if your line is now stable
Best thing it to wait for it to be picked up here

You are spot on - the noise margin did increase from 2 point something-or-other (as shown by the modem) and the line speed dropped accordingly. When I rebooted the modem this morning it was showing that the line had been synced at 16.4Mbps for over 500 hours. Would that count as stable? And how long do the automatic systems wait before dropping the noise margin (I was hoping that 500+ hours was long enough!).

I have no idea about the automatic systems but it will probably be long enough for Plusnet to do it manually

Do I need to submit a request or will it get picked up here at a matter of course?

I would wait for it to be picked up here as the DCT have a much better handle on this

That did the trick - speed back up to 18Mbps.
