Speed Speed Speed!!!!!

Been a long time since I came here to post, but my speed is at a silly slow now and im not happy....
My download on tester is at 30k/s and yet my upload is at 46k/s... I have had it getting lots more than this in the past.
I play games a lot and my enemy is lag.  I have been with plusnet for over a year now and it keeps getting slower by the day.  I'm gonna go this month (Febuary), and if no improvement is made I'm off to get another provider.
I know all the long cable stuff and heard it all before, but I know I can get well over 100k/s download speed coz I have had it.  I used to be able to watch movies without hassle, now I have to wait for an hour before I start to watch it.
I'm not interested in the technical stuff... I want my speed back that I know I can get and not a trickle of data that you allow.
I'm not even getting a 128k line let alone the UPTO 8MB that Im paying for.

Re: Speed Speed Speed!!!!!

Can you clarify.
You keep referring to k's - are you using kb/sec or kB/sec throughout or are some different as the numbers are confusing me
Also which tester are you referring to

Re: Speed Speed Speed!!!!!

Few obvious questions to clear out the dross
What is your current sync rate from your router
What does this say your current line speed is https://portal.plus.net/my.html?action=data_transfer_speed
What does the BT speedtester give http://speedtester.bt.com/
Have you exceeded your usage allowance

Estimated line speed:
Not recorded (service activated before we introduced estimates).
Current line speed:
250 <<<<<<<<<<<< this was at 1000 last time i looked
What is going on... I'm not happy in the slightest

Re: Speed Speed Speed!!!!!

That answers the question.
Due to a low sync your IP rate has dropped to 250kbps
The numbers you give after reboot of the router - is that from a speed test or from the router stats.
Please advise full router stats - speeds, attenuation and noise margin

Re: Speed Speed Speed!!!!!

Here we go with the tech stuff again.... I know it goes faster coz I've been there...
I feel like I have a Ferrari with a Fiesta engine in it.......  I have no idea what you tech bits are or how to find them all.
I just want my speed back, I've had no problems with connections or anything so why would it slow down.  Who slows it down and who can speed it back up again.
I'm trying hard not to swear here but I'm VERY ANGRY at the moment.

Re: Speed Speed Speed!!!!!

Getting angry won't help.
It looks at the moment that there is a problem with your line (nothing to do with Plusnet) and unless you give the information requested we won't be able to help.
If you can advise the model of router you have we will be able to tell you how to get the information from it.

Re: Speed Speed Speed!!!!!

Excellent.
That tells me that you should indeed be getting better speeds.
However - and this is going to be a bit technical.
The way the automatic system works at the exchange is that it limits the speed at which you can download to a figure a bit under your sync rate. The bad bit is that a drop in sync rate for whatever reason triggers a drop in this speed limit and because of the way the stupid system works it then won't increase it again until the line has been running at that higher speed for three days.
In your case there would have been a quite remarkable drop in sync rate - possible reasons include plugging in an unfiltered device.
As a final check can you try to run the BT Speedtester http://speedtester.bt.com/ which will among other things advise the IPrate (this is the rate which the automated system is limiting you to. (It may take a few tries)
If this is different to the Plusnet figure you gave earlier then we can address that. If, and I suspect it will be, it is the same the only recourse is to wait until the system increases the rate
This tells you how to run the test http://www.plus.net/support/broadband/troubleshooting/bt_speed_tester.shtml
