Speed Issues [Question ID: 46831058]

Hello. I'm back with some speed problems.  Sad
My router stats look like this:

But I am getting speed test results like this:

It's fluctuating a bit but it's generally around the 4.5mbps mark, where I would normally be getting 7+. This just started in the last few days. It's a pain to be honest because it's stopped me being able to stream HD video content or communicate clearly using voice apps. If someone from plus support could assure me this is being looked at it would be much appreciated, as I have been through the procedure before and it always seems to take some prodding and poking to get the ball rolling.
I have checked all the basic stuff, such as connections in the home, filters, noise on the line. There is no noise on the line and nothing has changed here, so I have a hard time believing that the issue is at my end. Are there larger problems afoot in the North West? My friend in Salford, who is also a plusnet customer is having some issues right now as well.
Here's a pingback result, too. Ping is actually alright it seems:

Re: Speed Issues [Question ID: 46831058]

Hi there,
I'm sorry to hear about the issues with your connection speeds. I've run some basic checks on your account and some line tests and can't see an obvious cause so we'll need to investigate this as a fault.
As per my reply to the ticket you raised to the CSC could you log this one via the fault checker https://portal.plus.net/apps/kbdfaults and I'll be more than happy to help if you reply back after doing that.
Cheers,
Adam.

Thanks Adam. Sorry, I couldn't actually find the faults section on your website. I've reported the fault (46837723) now anyway.
Cheers.

Re: Speed Issues [Question ID: 46831058]

having the same kind of issues - can we just skip the rubbish and get to the line test?  Being asked by the broadband fault if I have my router plugged in is kinda insulting.   I'm over here: http://community.plus.net/forum/index.php/topic,98721.0.html
Thanks!!! Cheesy

We can't force you to do basic checks like, try and alternate router or swap your filters but if you don't and an engineer visits and finds a fault with your equipment it could end up in charges for yourself which I'm sure you'd rather not pay.

Re: Speed Issues [Question ID: 46831058]

Okay so I've requested ADSL2 but I'm still a bit concerned about the fact that my router, which is plugged directly into the test socket, is constantly synced at 7.6mbps, while my actual download speeds struggle to hit 4mpbs right now. I have noticed that the indicator lights for where my wired network connection plug in to the router seem to be flickering constantly, but then wireless download speeds are not great either, unable to get past 2mbps. I've checked the wiring and micro filters to the best of my ability, but I am unable to find any hitch. The peculiar thing is that I have had stable 7-8mbps downloads for months and months since I last had a problem, which was to do with the grounding of the phone line and re positioning the router to the test socket. Then suddenly, these problems arise.
Perhaps PlusNet might send an engineer out to check the wiring out here? As they seem to be saying everything is fine at their end and I'm baffled trying to find a mistake here, to be honest.

Seems to fluctuate a lot right now, ping tends to shoot up too see:

Re: Speed Issues [Question ID: 46831058]

Hi there,
I've run a check on the BT site for any results from the BT speed tester, but there aren't any showing - have you run any since the previous test above? Unfortunately we can't use results from speedtest.net in the same way. If you could update the ticket with some results from http://www.speedtester.bt.com we'll add them to the fault information and get this chased for you.

Re: Speed Issues [Question ID: 46831058]

Thanks Matt. I've just run another BT speed test and I'll update the ticket info like you said. Sharing it here for reference.

One thing I must point out is that while things have improved a bit, touching the 6mbps area, if the connection drops, my speeds drop right back down to 1mbps or below, taking hours to climb back up. Although it's still not touching the 7+ I used to get.
Thanks.

You won't get more than 7 while your IP profile is 6500. The sync rate of 7616 suggests that interleaving is on at the moment.

Ah right. Fair enough. Smiley
However. It is still dropping and slowing right down a lot.

Hi Timbob,
Although there were a few disconnections yesterday it seems a lot better since last night. I reckon you shold leave things as they are now and see if the stability increases.

Okay, sounds like an idea. I'll see how it goes. Thanks for your help. Smiley
Am I still being moved to ADSL2 by the by?
