Re: Spam

Fair enough - at least there's an explanation for it. I do just have one other question though... I notice that a number of the non-deleted spam e-mails have 'X-Maa: Suspected Spam' in their headers... what's this about? On some days, nearly all my spam e-mails have that included... if whatever that was was trusted more when determining an e-mail's spam status, my level of spam received would see a big decrease from the look of things.

Re: Spam

The X-MAA header is added by Critical Path - I believe when CP tagging is introduced those will be tagged as spam.

Re: Spam

That's right. Anything marked X-Maa: Suspected Spam at the moment in the headers will have the subject line marked as [-SPAM-] when we turn the critical path spam tagging on.

Re: Spam

Several of my genuine emails are now being tagged as Spam.
I get 2 or 3 from the same source daily and some are being tagged and others not. The spam detection parameters must have been changed. Luckily I receive my all spam and re filter it on my on my pc by sender. The ones I want to keep are higher in the filter list, then the remaining spam goes in the bin.
Bu tit is worrying that genuine mail is being tagged as spam.

Re: Spam

rpaco, whilst we're using a Bayesian filter there is always the possibility for the odd false positive/negative to get through.
If you set up an IMAP folder on your email account and move these incorrectly tagged emails into it then I can try and make sure they're pushed through the next batch of training. You'd need to PM me though to let me know you've done this and also what the folder's called.

Ok I will have to pick a day next week to stop using my email.I use POP3 (Evolution mail on Ubuntu Gutsy o/s) not IMAP which does not leave anything on your server. (will also see if Evolution can leave a copy on the server.) Many thanks will PM you when done. Why not have a customer whitelist in the email settings?

Re: Spam

If you look to what mail is there using webmail before you retrieve it using your mail client you will be able to move it to a folder you create in there. If you still want to retrieve it you will need to forward it back to yourself.

Re: Spam

Today I sent myself an email with the subject "Cheap Viagra"
And the body text also said Cheap Viagra.
This came straight through to my inbox.
How could this possibly not be marked as spam?
Maybe I'm not understanding the definition of spam.
And my Spam folder, which used to have two or three THOUSAND spams in at any one time has NOTHING in and has had NOTHING in for a couple of weks now.
Is spam filtering working for anyone else?

Re: Spam

I would say the message you refer to clearly *wasn't* spam so was classified correctly.  Though many people might not expect to receive messages containing that word, others might do so quite legitimately.
For example if you'd received a message which included that text from a friend mentioning receipt of a *real spam* message containing it should their message have been flagged as spam?
Your own message came from a non-spamming source and does not contain "dodgy" images or links to disreputable places - so I suggest it really was classified correctly.

OK. That explains that.
Thanks.
Can you explain this?
No spam at all is being sent to the spam folder.
My Spam folder, which used to have two or three THOUSAND spams in at any one time has NOTHING in and has had NOTHING in for a couple of weeks now.
