Something not quite right.

I had what I presume was a DLM-inspired resync last night @ 2155, and since then, although my connection speed and IP profile have increased and my downstream SNR has decreased, my actual throughput has reduced.
I have screenshots of the BT test and my PN profile, but given the problems with loading pictures, I'll just log the details here.
Connection speed increased from 8730 to 10570kbps
Downstream SNR reduced from around 13.5dB to 6-6.5dB
BT speed test 5.44Mbps down/0.36Mbps up
IP profile on BT test 9.32/0.83
Current line speed from members centre 9.3Mbps
For info, I was getting around 6/6.5 down/0.70up regularly prior to 10PM last night.
Any thoughts, anyone?
As a point of interest, I, personally, haven't rebooted for 20 days.

Re: Something not quite right.

Hi John,
I've taken a look at your line and it looks pretty much spot on.
Are you currently using a wired connection?

Re: Something not quite right.

@ jab1 - It looks like your upstream may have been capped - what are your router stats?

Re: Something not quite right.

@ Chris
My connection is wireless atm, but I bet (from previous experience) that if I went and booted the desktop which is wired, my results would be as near the same as makes no difference.
My line should be near spot-on - the BT guy who sorted my problem last month spent a while on the job.
Had another unplanned resync at roughly 0915 today and now get:
Connection speed: 7.685Mbps
D/S SNR : 11.5 - 12.5dB
BT speed test: 6.4Mbps/0.49Mbps
BT IP profile: 6.75Mbps/0.83Mbps
Current line speed in Members centre 9.3Mbps
Router Stats: Down        Up
 Attn                35.0           16.0
Speed           7.658         0.828
SNR               12.4            8.5
Go figure  Huh

And, as a point of interest, the forums are like treacle again. Smiley

Re: Something not quite right.

The recent fluctuation of your line speeds is a little concerning though, you've also had a few drops too.

Have you noticed if you've had any interference on your phone line at all? Try a quiet line test by dialing 17070 then option 2.

Re: Something not quite right.

Chris - Quiet Line Test is exactly that - quiet  Wink - but it has been all the time anyway.
Emma mentioned you wanted a test-socket BT speed test - I'll do that after lunch as I've a few things I need to do this morning, and connecting to the test socket involves a bit of furniture reorganisation. Smiley

Re: Something not quite right.

Looking at the connection log it would also be useful to leave it in the test socket for 48 hours

Re: Something not quite right.

Bit difficult that, Jim. Much as I would like to, it would make access a problem due to the location of the test socket and power points, etc.
Edit:
Found a small table and extension power lead, so 48 hours (max) in the test socket is a maybe - but it would still be wireless after the tests have been run.

How are you currently set up, is it in an extension socket or using an extension cable?

Chris - currently into a BT installed extension socket - but see my edit to post #7 in reply to Oldjim.

Re: Something not quite right.

Sorry to both Chris's - I know I said I would move the router to the  master socket yesterday afternoon, but unexpected visitors put the kybosh on that.
Anyway, I appear to have had at least one DLM resync overnight (RADIUS logs will show any more  Undecided ).
Can you tell me exactly what reports you want from a wired test socket report please, and I will do them asap. I expect my speed/SNR will change again as soon as I move the router.

Re: Something not quite right.

Hi jab1,
Another Chris here - just to confuse things further Tongue
With your connection i the Test Socket we'll be able to rule out any internal wiring causing any potential interference which might be causing the drops/re-syncs. We'll also be able to look at the line stats in comparison to those taken before going into the Test Socket.

Re: Something not quite right.

Now I'm really  Undecided
OK Chris #3 - I'll move into the test socket in a while and run the BT test - but I think you will find it's not my internal wiring - the last BT engineer ran loads of internal checks before he changed cab and exchange connections and didn't find anything.

Re: Something not quite right.

Chris (whichever one picks this up Wink )
Router is now in test socket, where I'll leave it until Friday mid-morning. RADIUS logs will show lots of disconnects I'm afraid - looks like my Netgear DG834Gv5 is dying.
Spoke to another Chris this morning, and he is arranging for a Thompson to be sent., as I'm such a good customer  Grin
In the meantime, I'm going to substitute a Sumvision router I was given - it is brand new, but as no-one seems to know much about this brand, I don't know what to expect.
Unfortunately, that will disconnect me again.

Re: Something not quite right.

We'll take note that this has disconnected you and we can take a look at your connection logs tomorrow.
