Software to monitor connection speed?

Is there any software that I can install my end (Mac OS) which could monitor broadband speed in the background? BT Wholesale and Broadband Speedchecker test the speed but only at one specific point in time. What I'd like to find is something that I can set up in the background to monitor Plusnet's speed.

Any suggestions?
