Snail pace speeds

I switched to plusnet on Jan 2 with "promised" speeds of 7Mb, I can't even get 2Mb,  I have phoned the help desk ran all tests hard wired into the BT master socket with ALL other Equipment disconnected, tests show Line is good for 8Mb+ but STILL I only get 1.9Mb if I'm lucky, I know this line is capable  of 7.5Mb because thats what I used to get 6+ months ago I'm only 1/4 mile from the  exchange. Is the issue the IP Profile ?
speed checker says
Download speedachieved during the test was - 1.67 Mbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 0.4 Mbps-2 Mbps.
Additional Information:
Your DSL Connection Rate :8.13 Mbps(DOWN-STREAM), 0.45 Mbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 2 Mbps

Re: Snail pace speeds

It looks very much like a stuck IP profile
I assume that your exchange isn't 21CN enabled http://usertools.plus.net/exchanges/

Re: Snail pace speeds

Hi there,
It's not a stuck profile. The profile on our side is at 7150, which is correct. Was the router connected to your computer via a wired or wireless connection?
Incidentally for Oldjim's info the exchange isn't 21CN enabled.

Adam
The reported IP profile from the BT speed test is 2Mb which I think is stuck

Re: Snail pace speeds

It's a stuck profile on BT's side not ours.
I'll raise an SNR reset now, that should take effect in a few hours time, if not I'd advise raising a fault.

It may be stuck on a fixed profile of 2Mb? I know the missus was on a fixed 2Mb datastream connection and we had to raise a ticket to get her on to adsl max.

Where did Jim suggest it was on your side? If you had looked at the results from the BT speed test you'd have recognised it as a 20CN test and seen the 2MB IP Profile which is a classic sign of a stuck BT profile which Jim recognised.

Re: Snail pace speeds

Jim didn't suggest it was on the customer's side, I didn't spot the 2mb profile mentioned in the OP's first post (my bad, I stand admonished and correctified etc) Smiley
Its is a stuck profile on BT's side, the 20CN SNR reset I've submitted should fix that.

Re: Snail pace speeds

If you care to post your router stats we could comment on whether your speed looks right for your line (as there might be scope for more improvement).
See this thread for how to get this information http://community.plus.net/forum/index.php/topic,96155.0.html

Oh, scratch that, you're at about top speed for 20CN.

Re: Snail pace speeds

Could you explain how you think a 20CN line could be improved to give a profile above 7.15 please!

Re: Snail pace speeds

Yes, thanks Jelv, already on it.  My momentary lapse of concentration (forgetting 20CN).
