Re: Slower sync speed Hub 1 vs Hub 2

Hi there,

I'm really sorry to see you're having speed issues.

I've been looking into this for you and testing your line's not showing any causes for the drop in speed. As it is below the current estimated speed range (Below), I'd be tempted to arrange an Openreach engineer to investigate further.

Are there any days you'll be free between 8am to 1pm, or 1pm to 6pm for me to book a visit in for you? Mainly weekdays but we can occasionally book a Saturday timeslot, where there's availability.

Cheers

From 31st October 2022, I no longer have a regular presence here as I’ve moved on to a new role.

Re: Slower sync speed Hub 1 vs Hub 2

Sorry @Gandalf  I didn’t spot your reply. I have check the router today and noticed it has done a firmware update in May and yesterday it reset and is sync’d at 70mbps (download has increase to 65mbps also) hopefully things have sorted themselves out. Can you see anything your end that looks better? Cheers 17A863A2-347C-4E16-B2FB-8AB79F179575.jpeg

Re: Slower sync speed Hub 1 vs Hub 2

I don't know if any-one has knowledge of the inner workings on the DLM but it looks like it is set to keep the SNR just above 6dB. this suggests to me that as background noise changes the speed changes. not the SNR, so presumable the DLM bottom end stop is locked at 6dB or just over. Would a DLM reset help?

Thanks for getting back to us, I'm glad to hear that the connection is doing better.

My tests are picking up anything, as you are now back above estimates, can you keep an eye on it and get back to us if this changes.

Re: Slower sync speed Hub 1 vs Hub 2

It held for 48 days at 70mbps, reset on Friday and dropped slightly to 65mbps, hopefully not on a slow down again.

Re: Slower sync speed Hub 1 vs Hub 2

@SammyM  Noticed my sync has been dropping over the last week, now at 63mbps, it was a solid 70 for the last few months, has something changed? Cheers

Re: Slower sync speed Hub 1 vs Hub 2

Hi @Wipeout

I've reset your speed profile on the account to see if this will bring you back to 70Mbps. This is the only change I can find that would impact you.

Keep an eye on it over 24 hours and let us know if you see an improvement. If the speed profile does keep resetting itself though, this will indicate that we're being told that your line performs best at slightly lower speeds.

Re: Slower sync speed Hub 1 vs Hub 2

@Wipeout

Given that this issue has popped up again, I have done a full re-read of this thread...

The topic title infers the thinking that the speed difference is related to the change in routers (Hub 1 vs Hub 2) rather than there is a difference in speed now compared to that at the time the Hub 1 was used.

One significant observation which has been ignored through out the thread is an "alarm bell" reported in the KBD test recorded in post #4 ... "Regular Interference Observed Daily" ... I take that to be RFI, that is REIN.

Might you consider reverting to the Plusnet Hub 1 (which is a repainted BTHH5a) and run it for a while with Router Stats (see the link below) so that you can see if there are specific periods of interference, which might be "driving" the DLM behaviour?

Re: Slower sync speed Hub 1 vs Hub 2

Thanks @csmith94 , it’s been at 63mbps for 4 days so no change yet. Prior to this it was 70m since Sept/Oct time.

@Townman will see if I still have the old hub, I have a feeling it was recycled as the new one was holding solid.

Re: Slower sync speed Hub 1 vs Hub 2

@Wipeout just checking that when Curtis did the speed profile reset that you did a reset of the hub as well?

Re: Slower sync speed Hub 1 vs Hub 2

@willcutforth  Yes after I reset the hub it’s been back up at 70mbps holding fine, last night at 4am it disconnected and is now at 66Mbps so will keep an eye on it.
