Slow speeds over VPN

I use PrivateInternetAccess VPN and have noticed dreadful speeds recently. My usual ADSL performance (without VPN) is 16Mb down/0.5 up. The VPN connection to Florida is currently 2.2Mb down/0.18Mb up. The quickest is US East, at 6.9Mb down/0.19 up.
Does anyone else use PIA VPN, and have similar experience?

Will do, but I was wondering whether there was a general issue with Plusnet throttling of VPN connections?

i use PIA and am seeing reasonable speeds (though I'm on fibre) and well into the 30's.
