Slow since September

Up to September I was getting 2600 to 2700 Kbps download speeds, with
an I.P. of 2.16 to 2.39. Since then there has been cut offs due to the poor
weather and BT maintenance.  I have tried router resets but nothing I do
improves my current speed of approx. 1900 Kbps and I.P. of 1.68. Router
is a 2700 HGV plugged into the master socket and filters have been changed.
Can someone from Plusnet please give it a kick as it seems to be stuck.
BTW Test
Download speed achieved during the test was - 1.51 Mbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 0.8 Mbps-2 Mbps.
IP Profile for your line is - 1.68 Mbps

Re: Slow since September

Hi AMX,
You are on quite a long line, which at best might synch at 2.6Mbps.
The current SNRM is an odd figure, sat in the middle between the usual targets of either 6dB or 9dB.  If I were to assume that you took the stats at the time you posted, then it would be after dusk and AM/MW radio interference would be present,  This rather suggests that the target SNRM is 9dB - higher than normal.
So the question which needs to be addressed to get you more synch speed is why is it elevated?  Is there any noise on your phone line?  Dial 17070 option 2 using a corded phone plugged into the master socket.  Check the line regularly as the noise might be intermittent.
Is the router plugged into the master socket?  If not can you please try it there and repost the line stats.  What type of master socket do you have?

Re: Slow since September

Thanks for reply, as stated router is plugged into BT master socket, bell wire
is dis. and qlt is regularly checked and silent. Stats were taken at the time of
posting.

Re: Slow since September

The profile at the moment appears to be the best it's been in a good few months.
If you line is stable, we can look into changes of SNR margin for you, but we'd need your line to be stable to be able to do this.

Re: Slow since September

As I have said the line has been stable at this level since September but it was stable before that
at the levels I stated in my 1st post.  I believe this decrease in speed was caused by exchange
and or line maintenance at the time of some storms. I have been waiting to see if it came back by
itself but it hasn't happened.  A  SNR reset would be appreciated.

Re: Slow since September

Do you want me to risk 3db, or shall I go for 6?

Re: Slow since September

Thanks for prompt response.
3 or 6db, I will leave it up to you to do whichever you think will be best.
I know I am on a long line so any improvement will be great.

Re: Slow since September

For the sake of safety, I've put you on a 6db line.
Changes can take up to four hours, but you'll usually see these sooner. Your throughputs won't increase straight away though.
Tony
PS, when this is sorted, if the line remains stable, please let us know if you want your upload uncapping.

Re: Slow since September

Hi Tony,
Router stats. have improved as shown above but BTW tests show no change
Download speed achieved during the test was - 1.56 Mbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 0.8 Mbps-2 Mbps.
IP Profile for your line is - 1.68 Mbps
Do I just have to wait or is there anything that can be done.

Re: Slow since September

Hi there.
At the time of your last post your connection hadn't dropped since the profile on our side was updated.
This means your speeds were still being restricted to around the 1.6mbps mark. However your connection dropped in the early hours of the morning so the speeds should now be fine.
Can you retest and get back to us if your still having any issues?

Download speed achieved during the test was - 2.08 Mbps

IP Profile for your line is - 2.21 Mbps
Seems ok now,but why is the range still being shown as 0.8 to 2Mbps

It is called the BTOR / BTw get out of jail free card.  The top end figure is the most that they think you should dream of for your line and the bottom figure is how poorly they can deliver the service before they will accept that it is unacceptable.

Re: Slow since September

That doesn't explain why the speedtester gave the wrong range for the DSL connection rate. For WBC Standard, ADSL Line Rate 2272kbps to 4544kbps, the throughput range should be 1200kbps to 4000kbps. Perhaps the range hasn't been updated because the line was recently reset, and it'll change later.

Re: Slow since September

Thanks for replies, I thought the range should be 1200 to 4000 kbps, but as you
say perhaps it will update later.
