Re: Slow download, upload...everything

Ok, new filter now, just browsed a few pages to get some traffic and here's the latest result. The SNR is 6.5. Checked a few times before this result and it was between 5.5 and 7.0 .One thing concerning me is the N/A on the HEC Errors. Is this better than the 1 trillion errors I had before or not? Re: Slow download, upload...everything

At risk of repeating myself (I can't be bothered to check if I am) your problem is shown by the low upstream noise margin and very high upstream attenuation (it has increased from 25dB in most of your reports to 30dB and as it is a log scale that is nearly 4 times worse)
This clearly shows a fault but where it is I have no idea.
Until this gets sorted you won't get anywhere and it probably won't be until there is a BT engineer visit
As a comparison I have a much longer line than you and my upstream attenuation is only 20dB

Re: Slow download, upload...everything

Well I had a fault ticket open, and afyer a while I was asked to open a different one- which i did on 7th December. I have been passed around a bit and answered a load of questions ( the same ones I have answered previously) . And now the latest 'delaying' tactic is to instruct me to go to an ' automated' helpline and answer their questions , SO THEY CAN START INVESTIGATING MY PROBLEMS.
So they haven't been investigating anything??
This fault finding thing needs a total overhaul.

Hi rogadodge,
I'm sorry to see that you're still having issues. I've just asked a faults agent to take a look at this for you.

Re: Slow download, upload...everything

Thanks Jo, appreciate that. Of you have access to my tickets ( open and closed ) you will understand the frustration.
What is also adding to the stress is the fact that my speed HAS improved but I am still getting disconnections. Without getting to the root cause , I know  the speed will plummet again. And I keep being asked the same questions by seemingly different people.
Smiley Smiley :)Well, back to work.  Many thanks, and.

Happy Christmas everyone.  Smiley Smiley Smiley

Re: Slow download, upload...everything

Hi rodgadodge,
You're in good hands with Riyaz, he's raised the fault for you and there's a couple of questions awaiting your attention when you next check your email - soon as that's done I'm given to understand there'll be an engineer booked next week for you.

Re: Slow download, upload...everything

Right, waiting now for engineer appointment to be made.  Smiley Smiley
I have had several days of terrible connection problems.  Disconnections and my speed dropped down so low- it looks up to gary glitter!! Sad Sad
I have put my broadband firewall back on, back to low setting. I feel it can't make things any worse. Can anyone tell me if I should or not ,do this? I was asked to turn it off while checks were carried out, and things seem to be worse.
Also, on the BT site, it seems fibre is going to be available here in March next year. Would fibre be better than broadband Ihave now?Or is it totally independant?  And could I sign up on PN for this?
I have been with PN for 3 months, and had terrible problems with connection and am thinking that in 3 months time it may all be irrelevant.
Any  views, anyone, please?

Re: Slow download, upload...everything

Smiley SmileyHad  a BT engineer round who's a happy bunny?  Smiley Smiley
House checked ok, 8Mb to cabinet 400 yds away. Dropping signal at my door.
A little bit of magic and now a clear 8Mb to my door. All seems ok in house now.  Smiley Smiley  ( can't help myself with all these smileys  Smiley :))
Any chance of resetting my profile, though at moment is on approx 1Mb download speed. The router has been unplugged several times today - is this likely to be interpreted as disconnections, hence a fault, by BT? Am I going to get my speed reduced again?  Thats my worry now.
But otherwise , very happy  Smiley Smiley Smiley Smiley    ( so-far, long may it last).

Hi rogadodge,
Great news. I'll see what I can do about the profile.

Re: Slow download, upload...everything

Hi rogadodge,
I've changed the profile to 7000k. Give it about 15 mins to change and if it's not changed then reboot via the router interface.

Re: Slow download, upload...everything

That's a great improvement in the download sync rate - and are now pretty much in line with the Kitz predictions for the new attenuation figures, which are a *massive* improvement (eg 49dB vs 40dB is a 2-3 times louder signal!)
Quote from: rogadodge
Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]: 24.5 / 40.0

As you were having problems with these values swinging around wildly, I'd suggest watching these values to see whether they have now stopped fluctuating.
And to answer your question about fibre... the answer is that with the fault lying between the cabinet & your house, then you'd still have had a problem. I'm not sure about how the VDSL2 management scheme would have coped, but it is possible that BT could have seen a low speed (below 15Mbps) and refused to provision FTTC at all.

Re: Slow download, upload...everything

So Rogadodge what was he magic fix the BT engineer did for you?
I am having some slow speeds too and I am waiting for PN to investigate, tum te tum.
Any tips would no doubt prove to be very useful.
Cheers
