Slow broadband

Last December I was getting just over 2 meg d/l speed, Since then it has been gradually dropping until recently I have been struggling to get 1 meg. My line has been dropped several times since December  but has never recovered to the 2 meg mark.
Today I decided to have a look at it, plugged directly into test socket, no change. Using a phone butt plugged into test socket adsl filter and did a silent line test,  all clear, but without dial tone there was faint constant background crackle. Result faulty filter,  replaced and crackle gone. The filter was a BT MF50. so if anyone is getting similar  problems try replacing the filter.
My problem now is because of the numerous disconnects while testing my speed has dropped back, any chance of a nudge back up. Every bit helps as 3 miles from exchange.!!

No change on results of a speed test or the sync speed and noise margin reported by the router?

Re: Slow broadband

I don't think you understood my question. Did you get a similar result on a speed test, or had the stats reported by the router not changed by much (or both).

Re: Slow broadband

The point being that only the router stats will change immediately; Plusnet's system for throttling your speed may take days to respond and give you a faster speed-test result.

Re: Slow broadband

I have placed an SNR reset on your line, this will hopefully nudge your profile up.
This normally takes around 4 hours but can take up-to 24 hours.
Let me know how your speeds are when this has taken effect.
Chris.

OK, thanks for that Chris, I will watch for any improvement.

Re: Slow broadband

Chris, line has now been steady with no disconnects for over 3 days and still no improvement in d/l speed ,
Router stats.

Estimated line speed:
Not recorded (service activated before we introduced estimates).
Current line speed:
1.4 Mb
BT Speedtest

0 Mbps 2 Mbps
Max Achievable Speed
Download speedachieved during the test was - 1.24 Mbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 0.8 Mbps-2 Mbps.
IP Profile for your line is - 1.81 Mbps
2. Upstream Test:  -provides background information.
Upload Speed
0.39 Mbps

0 Mbps 0.45 Mbps
Max Achievable Speed
Upload speed achieved during the test was - 0.39Mbps
Additional Information:
Upstream Rate IP profile on your line is - 0.45 Mbps
I  seem to be getting this problem every few months. All I want is a reliable service at a reasonable speed that I don't need to be a broadband engineer to sort out. I have been with Plusnet just over 3 years and apart from a couple of weeks in December 2011 the download speed has been pretty poor.
Hope you can sort this out.

You'll probably need to move house to achieve that because your line attenuation is too high to ever get super-fast broadband.  You might be able to get a slightly higher speed but you would need to do a bit of your own broadband engineering to achieve that

But your obvious and immediate problem is that Plusnet are over-throttling your line speed.  Call them up and ask them to adjust your current line speed up to 1.8 Mbps to match the BT IP Profile.

Re: Slow broadband

Thanks for your input, but being almost 3 miles from my exchange I do know I am not going to get super-fast broadband.  I will be content with around the 2 meg I was getting before. I hope Chris will pick this up on Monday if not I will ring them.

Re: Slow broadband

Are you still in the test socket? The sync looks a little slow for the attenuation.

Re: Slow broadband

How are your speeds at the moment? I have adjusted your speed profile to match your sync rate so you should now be seeing an increased speed.
Let me know how you'r getting on.
