Slow broadband - new user

Just had this email:

When you signed up for Plusnet Broadband, we gave you an estimated line speed. Now that your broadband has now been active for 14 days, we thought we'd let you know the speed as it stands today, by way of comparison.

Estimated line speed 4Mbps to 6.5Mbps
Current line speed 3.3Mbps

I've looked at the links provided and I can't see any obvious fixes or reasons why it should be so slow. Can anyone help please?

Re: Slow broadband - new user

I am using wifi. I have no idea how to check my router stats? I have a Plusnet router which I set up as per the instructions.

Re: Slow broadband - new user

Your line seems pretty stable now but there were some disconnections a few days ago:

The line doesn't seem to be having too many errors, although looking at these stats I'm not expecting much room for vast improvements:

Upstream DSL Link Information Downstream DSL Link Information
Loop Loss: 33.0 54.5
SNR Margin: 8.5 6.1
Errored Seconds: 1 0
HEC Errors: 0
Cell Count: 795 2491
Speed: 827 3850

Maximum Stable Rate (KBPS): 3424 Fault Threshold Rate (KBPS): 2739
Mean Time Between Retrains (Seconds): 86400 Mean Time Between Errors Upstream (Seconds): 517
Indicative Line Quality: G Mean Time Between Errors Downstream (Seconds): 2215

Interestingly the estimates for your line are now between 2 and 6 Mb/s.

Re: Slow broadband - new user

  1. Open up a web browser window (like Firefox, Chrome or Safari).
  2. Type your IP into the web address bar. Unless you’ve changed it, this’ll be 192.168.1.254
  3. This’ll take you to the home page of your router, where you’ll see a summary of your current connection status.
  4. When you’ve done this, you’ll see Home, Basic Settings, Advanced Settings and Helpdesk. If you click on them, you’ll be asked for your admin password. This is the same as your router password.
This is from the Help Desk
  • 1-5: Router model and firmware.
  • 6-20: Line stats and connection details.
  • 21-24: wi-fi settings.
  • 25-28: Firewall and router software details.
